So I figured I'd start a build thread for my '91 L.
I'll start with the background info.
I began my search for a car back in September of '09. I just sold my '97 plymouth neon for $700 (hated that car but it got me from point A to B).
Anyway I began looking for small cars, typically Toyota's (corollas, tercels, etc.) and I had always wanted a Geo metro. Then one day as I was reading up on metro's and the like I saw someone mention the Festiva in an article and I looked it up and fell in love! So I began the search for a festy.
A month later I found one in Sydney Ohio and began emailing and texting the guy for about a week. So I made up my mind and decided to go for it. A buddy and I made the 180 mile trip. When we got there and I finally saw the festy I was very surprised, it looked nothing like the pictures haha much worse actually. But inspite of the appearance it ran very well and I wanted one so bad I bought it anyway.
So I picked her up for $700 and drove her the three hours home with no problems at all except the shimmy after 50 mph ughh.
I didn't take any pics of it when I bought it. But all I can say is wow. Had about 3 inches of cigarette residue all over the interior. Everything was yellow and dusty. The seats were all torn to shreds. The only speakers were two blown computer speakers sitting in the back seat (great for a 3 hour drive :p)
Soooooo here we are today.
I bought it with 91,000 miles I'm now at nearly 99,000 miles and almost 1 year of ownership.
So far cosmetically I bought basically the entire interior from Jasonpaulbauer. New seats, all the plastics, and new door panels.
Put in the escort dome light.
Got a new stereo and speakers, and put in a 12" sub.
After some serious cleaning the car doesn't smell like smoke anymore and I repainted the plastics with krylon fusion satin paint and looks very good.
I also put in a new cluster with tach.
Put 13" steelies.
So far the repairs have been pretty minimal but I have replaced:
All the brakes, Shoes, Pads, Drums, ect.
LCA's
valve cover gasket
and I think that's it! haha 8,000 miles and basically no problems.
Soon I will be replacing the front wheel bearings and may need to replace tie rods I also have a spare 5 speed tranny I want to put in.
So basically it's been an all around great DD for me.
Here are some pics!
I'll take some interior pics soon.
I recently bought another festy and plan on putting a B6T in it
and here is my shell/parts car
And I have a 323 GT which is currently holding the B6T engine
The 323 and shell's future are still up in the air.
I will have 2 festy engines 2 stock trannys so who knows!
Anyway that's it! Figured I'd start this so I can just post stuff here rather than starting new threads all the time! I will hopefully be starting the B6t swap here soon and I'll start another build thread for that festy!
