  • Fastorbust's 1992 Ford Festiva Turbo Build

well everyone im not new to the ford aspire community or festiva, but i figured i would post this build. My name is evan and im good friends with fastorbust (aaron) and also nerdracing. this is Fastorbust's project that i have been working on with him. we are currently turbo'ing a 1992 ford festiva with a turbo kit that was bought off ketchup, but were adding extra goodies i.e. cam, new plugs wires and ignition coil, 2" exhaust all the way from the turbo manifold back. there is more to type but and pictures to add so i'll start off with one pic from the first day.

the oil feed line was a fun install, next week we will be finishing up the oil pan and putting the performance cam in nerdracing will be assisting us with that. i will be doing the intercooler piping and some other odds and ends with hooking up the coolent lines and oil return line from the turbo and what not... stay tuned for more pics!

were looking to get 130hp out of it it might push more it will only be running on 5psi, we might crank it up a little more since we will have more relalible spark with the msd blaster coil and plugs and wires along with the performance cam also im not sure what injectors are going in they came with the kit

we have 3 other engines if this one blows we can clean another one up, but i think he wants to go to a b6 next after this one

                          I'm betting on bust! lol.

A few things to think about, I'm no expert so maybe you know everything about these builds... but just the same:
I'm not sure what you mean by 'performance cam', but if its a performance NA cam its almost certainly going to be worse than a stock cam when it sees boost. Valve lift/duration is usually increased (hence performance gains) which increases valve over-lap... bad thing under boost!
Next, you will need to take out base timing... although with only 5psi you might get away with not taking too much out. Its not a very nice way of boosting a car, but when your only looking for small gains no biggie.
Fuel management? Bigger injectors, FMU, ?? Also, why the B6 ECU? Unless you've compared the ignition/fuel maps and have found them to pull out more timing on the top end (don't think so) or hold the injectors open longer (once again, don't think so, but maybe) then its pointless.
finally (at least this is as much as I feel like typing for now); what gives you the 120hp goal?? thats twice stock... I'd like to see the computations for that. Its certainly possible... but not on that setup. The stock festy fuel pump has a hard time keeping up with an NA BP (around 120hp), so i hope you've got an upgrade for that. 5psi, even when that turbo does finally spool up there, is probably going to net you max 80-90, if you get lucky on the A/F ratios and ignition timing.

                          Just some thoughts!

i am in no way an expert im far from it and the cam is a fms performance cam so its na and wont be going in now, i have b6 injectors that came with the turbo and ill prolly get a fmu and i heard the b6 ecu added a little performance on here a couple years ago so i put one in and as far as the 130 hp guesstimate was a joke and i think evan took it seriously

and nerd are u gonna come on friday and will u be in my old aspire i really wanna see what it looks like now in person?

yeah I will be there, pm me the address where we will be at? I dunno if its your place or not. I might be interested in that cam if you aren't going to use it then.

I don't get out of work till 4:30 so I won't be there till around 5-5:30 traffic depending. I'll be driving your old car too. I have to do a wheel bearing on it (other side that wasn't bad) thursday if the weather holds. I also have some EGT side skirts to install too.
