I took a few pics of the interior today. It's showing 200k on the odometer but you can't tell it by looking at the car.
Check out how clean the floor pan is

I did a good bit of work to the head today but instead reposting the tons of pics here I'm just going to give a link to the other thread about the ongoing head work

Well, I finally got back on this today after doing the port and polish work to the head, a trip to Virginia Beach to pick up Mabel for Taz, and working on getting Mabel running halfway decent.
I finished installing the freeze plugs and got the shortblock painted.
I installed the new valve guides. Check out the homemade sine plate
Ground the valve seats. I finally got to try out one of my new ruby rocks
Shiny
Then I fired up the old Sioux. I wish I knew how old this thing is. I'm 38 and it's the the same valve grinder we've had since I can remember (and it was old then LOL). I'm guessing the build date on it is sometime around the time Eisenhower was in office
Pretty "new" valves
After that I started working on cleaning the HLA's. With the poor service history of the engine I figured there would be a lot of gunk in them. This is the perfect job for the trusty sonic cleaner.
Preparing to drop the HLA's in the sonic
The cleaner is purple now, but wait till after they've been in the sonic unit for an hour or so.
And this is what came out of them :puke:
Farm fresh lash adjusters
Next thing will be cleaning up the remaining valve train components and reassembling the head.

^^ Hehehe, sorry man. I'm currently working on 4 different cars I had to stop on this one for a few days because I've been waiting on new o-rings for the lash adjusters that are supposed to arrive today. Pics will commence as soon as the parts arrive and I get them installed :thumbright:

Ok, I finally finished getting the head back together tonight
I can't really justify installing dirty parts into a clean engine so I gave all the valvetrain components a good cleaning before reassembly
Then I reassembled the rocker rails and installed the reconditioned lash adjusters.
And then installed the camshaft and rails into the head and torqued everything.
Next up will be bolting the head on the shortblock and cleaning up the valve cover.

I used Dawn Power Dissolver on the head (shout-out to Iceracerdude for that). It's AWESOME stuff. The valvetrain parts are actually pretty easy to clean. I use a gallon container filled with full strength Castrol SuperClean. Just disassemble every thing and drop them in (except for the lash adjusters).
It'll start to foam a little when you drop the rockers in but don't freak out LOL It's just doing it's job. You may have to do one side of the rails for a while and then flip them over to clean the other side. Only takes about 15-20 minutes of soak time and then just pull the pieces out and work over them with a brush and more SuperClean as needed. Also, I strongly suggest using rubber gloves with that stuff, it'll pull every last drop of oil from your skin.
The rockers look extra clean because I went over them with a small wire brush on my die grinder at low pressure. I originally had the engine hot tanked, which wasn't worth the $$ IMO because I still had to clean everything after I got it back. The process turned the rockers white from the powdered caustic they use and it looked like crap. I now use SuperClean on them exclusively and they always come out looking brand spanking new
Thanks for the compliment and please don't hesitate to post or PM me if you need any help or advice, I'm always eager to help Also, I may be able to get you a better deal on piston rings than Rock Auto. I use Hastings rings and I've made a good contact for getting rings at a very reasonable price depending on the application (cast, chrome, moly).
