Its cool to dream but i hate doing it too. Swap with one of the tried and true n/a swaps and see if you can take the mpg hit. If you want more power then boost.

A regular BP swap will embarrass most regular passenger cars on the highway. When you boost it like fastiva you can pick on cars that are designed to be off highway so that is saying a lot. I would BP it and see how it goes. If you have a bunch of welding equipment Id suggest a second festiva.

The svt contour 2.5 engine is about the same as the taurus 3.0. Owners swap the 2.5 heads over onto a taurus short block for some extra oomph

Im not a VW guy, where would a vr6 engine play in this?
The contour was such a cool car.Way more cooler than a SHO in my opinion. Wish I could find a totaled one. How cool would that be?

Those deals are hard to find for me anyway. But you are totally correct.

I think using a Taurus front assy would be viable, since some on here have already done the SHO swap and there would be some practical experience to draw upon.

Then again, if you could find a wrecked '95+ FWD Lincoln Continental with the 32V DOHC 4.6L V8......Hmmmm.........add a centri and some tuning and have 400+ rwhp Festy.
Didnt they also put that in a SHO for a couple years?

Nitro, if you have "more tools than skills," then you're much like me. I would not attempt anything but a "vanilla FWD swap" at this time in my life. A standard BP swap keeping your stock 5 speed would be easiest. Go Aspire/Rio suspension and get some decent 13" or 14" tires and wheels for safety.

As long as you don't mash the accelerator from stops, you should be okay with the power a BP can put to a stock transaxle.

This seems to be your cheapest, most powerful "solution."

The absolute cheapest and SAFEST solution is to just concentrate on MPGs and not try to pass folks unless you have to. If they speed up, fall back and enjoy 40+ mpg.

I know that's not the fun way, though.

I once did a BP swap for about $150, its a very simple swap to do with pretty good power, i surprised quite a bit of people with that setup, i just surprise a lot more people with my KL lol

                  1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
                  1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Hey Karl happy Saturday. You get them snow treads on yet? Snow is right around the Corner! YUK!
People here in WI get offended when a "LITTLE" car trys to pass them. I was talking to my son.(He's got a 93L. And he laughed & said ya I know what you mean it happens to me too..Anyway I'm pretty confident I could handle a "Complex Swap". My Dad's a TV repairman. He's got an AWESOME set of tools. He can fix anything! LOL !

$150.00? Thats sick,I'll never pull that off. But I believe you Kid I've looked at your handywork. And I must say you are quite the McGiver. I dont think even HE could pull off some of your work. Hey by the way.I was looking at your diff swap and had an idea. You know how you had to drill the rivets right? Well I was thinking instead of assembling with the bolts you used and then having to grind for clearance.Maybe you could countersink the holes in the ring gear. Then use graded Flat head machine screws. The head would be flush with the top of the ring gear. If you couldnt find the exact length. Just turn down the screw in your lathe. I dont think you would loose much strength in the ring gear. Plus when you fill the hole with the bolt. It actually gives you some of that strenght back. A little "RED" on each thread b4 you assemble and you'll be TQ for sure! Anyway love your determination & Innovation. You ready for snow?:eeeeeek:

To B or not to B.That is the question-

You guys have given great input to my dilema. And I would be foolish not to listen.I would say the majority of you have steered me towards a BP. Which can be a BPT without much work. Soooo with all stupid puns aside.I'm going to look at a Bp/G25MR in the morn. Hopefully this will be the new powerplant for my nameless Festy! I will keep you guys posted.Cross your fingers with me Gents. Nitrofarm-

a stock BP using a festy trans and clutch can be done for $500. an excedy disk and pressure plate for a festiva will hold on a stock bp for a long time and is around $100... but if you wanna go boost it will just slip... ask me how i know...lol...

my spec stage 3+ for my BP/g25mr was $420 shipped and is holding beautifully. it helps that its a full faced clutch so it doesnt have the horrible chatter of the puck style.

i recommend going big on the clutch from the start otherwise youre just wasting your money. ive been through 4 clutches in 2 years... which is way more money than if i would have just bought this beast from the start http://949racing.com/miata-twin-disc-clutch.aspx ... start saving...lol... imo teh cost is justified... only 14.6lbs for the clutch AND flywheel(egt flywheel and spec clutch is 30.5lbs)... it will rev like a street bike...

If you have ever "back-halved" a traditional rwd car, the rwd festiva swap isn't too different. The traction is well worth the effort. If you can find a suitable donor car and do the fab work yourself the budget can be kept low. If the thought of back-halving a car scares you, or your weld/fab skills are novice, then sticking to fwd is the way to go. If you want some ideas on the low buck rwd swap, search "angry little blue car".

That clutch very nice. And I understand what you mean if you would have spent the money right from the get go. I think the car I just bought has a stge "TWO"?

                                Bought Mckabe ride-

Well its in my driveway now. Took me and his Dad @ 2 hrs to get it onto my tow dolly. Partly beacuse my dolly has ramps that are waaaaay to long. The Festy wheel base is so short that the frame hits the trailing eadges of the ramp.:nono: Had to get the front end 27" in the air. Then push the dolly under the car (on jack stands) & then lower car onto the dolly. What a pita to say the least :eeeeeek:
Then tried @ 10 times to get it backed into my garage so I can part it out. No such luck, gonna have to use a skidloader to get it off trailer & into the garage. I had to set the cars front wheels onto a spare rim & tire. This gave me the elevation I needed for frame clearance. But it totally keeps the tow dolly from pivoting correcty. My wife finally came out & yelled at me. Why do you keep driving on the grass? Blah Blah whoot whoot! So it sits for now in the driveway.Till I decide where/what I'm gonna do with it.

Sorry but these were taken with a phone-----Better pics will follow for sure.
Mckabe is a great young man. To bad he had to have such a horrible wreck.Thank God he's ok,I doubt he will build another Festy. He is thinking of a doing a BPT Miata. Thats fine with me,as long as he builds something. Thanks to Mckabe & his Dad Ken. You guys are great. And I'm a better person for getting to know you. Nitrofarm-
