yes! even with a hoist it was a pain to get it positioned correctly. a harbor freight hoist was only about $160.

This is where I'm at now.. Still need the passenger axel out, it's seized in the hub pretty good, I stripped a harbor freight puller 3 times trying to get it out, after pb blaster and a 20 minutes with a propane torch, the hub was hot to the touch, so there's no reason the puller shouldn't have worked.

Yes, I have plans already for getting a cherrypicker.. I was rushing to get the b3 out before I did tho, my aspire had a/c, doesn't matter I'll figure it out when I get there I guess. I got everything but the axels ready, it's taken longer than I wanted it to, but with the next two days off I want to have the entire engine bay cleared of unnecessary stuff. Things just changed so I may not even be getting the JY protege motor, but for the price of this new motor I can't argue or complain + it comes complete from the belts to the clutch which is considerable savings vs buying new, not to mention unknown miles and this one has 70k.

My thought is that taking the B3 out "by hand" is not too much of a problem (I'd take the head off first to lighten it further). It's the "putting in the BP" that I think will need the proper tools.
I'd see about an engine hoist for the BP install.

The write up is for a non 1993 car. I dont remember going back to the yard to get a skinny pulley. the problem is the double wide pulley will hit the frame, and a serpintine is even thicker, so that is why that info is there. A non a/c aspire pulley is the same as what they are explaining im 95% sure.

I was looking at the BP swap guide and it says to swap the crank pulleys and use the b3 pulley, is that something I'm going to need to do? Will I need all of the Aspire pulleys? Asking because I don't want to sell them if I'm going to need them. I don't have room to keep the Aspire stuff laying around if I don't need it.
I called about the 93 protege bp, I'm gonna run up thursday and get it, I need it so I can put it in and figure up how much room I'm going to have and if/how much of the engine bay needs cut/clearanced. After that I need a transmission/starter/alternator/distributor right? Anything else? I think they have the intake manifold and throttle body to go with it. (Sold separately and I pay a core charge too -.-)Last edited by zoom zoom; 01-16-2012, 10:11 PM.

Ah, gotcha, I'll get it taken care of, 2 of my uncles are hvac installers, maybe one of them can stop by on their way home sometime and do it for me, they mainly do commercial work, but might be able to do this.Originally posted by JoDan View PostYou need to take it to a shop who can evac the system dry before you disconnect any lines. You need to take it to a shop who can evac the system dry before you disconnect any lines. "legal way"Originally posted by zoom zoom View Postit'll be kinda hard for me to drop it out of the bottom, I've got it jacked way up in the air, probably 2', but that's about as high as I trust my jackstands to go. I have an idea, and I'm pretty sure it will work, but I don't want to say it right now because someone's gonna end up going crazy and say it's probably not going to work lol, my fiance already told me i'm not "allowed" to do that, but what does she know. (famous last words)
anyway, the old a/c condenser probably isn't going to work, so should I go ahead and remove all the air conditioning compotents? I really don't care about air conditioning in the summer, even in the tripple digit days I cruise with the windows down. A little less weight won't hurt anything anyway. The book says have it serviced by a dealer dept, but is there a "safe" way for me to disconnect the hoses without spraying freon everywhere?

nerd: does a b8 block have the same holes drilled? I never looked at mine as its a n/a car

Ah, ok.
Another question, how much does a b3 weigh approximately, just the block and head, no more than 200 lbs right? Maybe 250?! I need to pull it out of my car and I don't have a cherrypicker, but if it's not too much I have an idea of how to get it out.

I have a large nose later BP and it has the turbo lines drilled and tapped. its the 95+ that don't.

Yea, I'm looking at a 02 Kia Rio 5 speed I hope will turn out to be a G series transmission that will work, if not I'll have to find another transmission. I don't see a point in spending a couple thousand dollars on parts to build something that's gonna break so I definately won't be using the stock transmission.
