Looks good man! Good to see you got that leak fixed. Don't forget I have that car with everything for a 5spd swap.

Oh, I haven't forgotten. An extra pedal and a sweet shift knob would be awesome..
Donny, working in the grass because I like to keep my butt in one piece! Don't need to get chewed out for getting ATF all over the clean cement.
I messed with the fluid level for an hour last night. When cold, it will grab well when put in gear, but not when warm. The "automatic" part of my transmission goes out too.. When in D it doesn't shift unless its almost floored, and even then 1-2 is at 30-35mph.-Zack

I spent some of my bday at the junkyard just to putz around. It was great to have a minute to myself.
These horns, I pulled off of a big '00ish Volvo. They sound great!
I mounted them on the upper radiator support to fit behind the grille.

Picked up an F3A from Brad (bhazard). Car troubles for everybody in that story, but I'll save you the bore.
The old transmission had been run low on trans fluid quite often, I assume, before I bought it. It came with a 5 gal bucket of ATF, half empty, in the hatch. I kept a good eye on it and it ran well for the past two years. It got worse, slipping a lot. Lately it wouldn't shift itself, or engage a gear unless you goose the throttle. It's behavior was totally unpredictable and it made it dangerous in city traffic when you have to get your derrière out of the way. This weekend I replaced it.
Saturday: went early to the parts store to order stuff then came home and pulled the B3/F3A that was in the car
Sunday: pulled apart the engine and trans. I spent a while with the cutoff wheel to get the old torque converter off of the flywheel because the bolts were over torqued. One came out, the other three had rounded heads. After reading the FSM, I learned you're supposed to put the tqconv on the transmission, mate the engine and transaxle, then install the tqconv bolts to 40 lbs/ft, so I did all that. Got everything in the air again, then changed the trans filter and pan gasket.
Monday: Threw in a new fuel filter while it was accessible. Dropped in the powerhouse and took a bit of time away to hang with family. After dinner, I slapped in the Rio front struts I've been sitting on forever.
Today (Tuesday): got everything back into the engine compartment, plumbed, plugged, and positioned. All I need now is the passengers side CV shaft. The one I pulled was only 2 yo but had a ripped boot and a lifetime warranty. Waiting on Advanced Auto Parts. I have four parts stores within walking distance of my front door, I can say I like them the least.-Zack

Well, my boring old F3A swap is done.
I'm stoked to have a GOOD Festiva again. Fixing all the little things that have been bugging me, like the broken faceplate radio and the windshield washer pump, can be justified as more than lipstick on a pig now!
The trans pan is dripping but I don't care. I should probably flush the trans soon anyways because its been sitting outside for a year. I'll replace the seal again then.
But.. singlehanded swap done!-Zack

This past weekend, I neglected to report (to the forums at least) that I installed a new eBay gas tank. In the process, found a packet of McDonald's fancy ketchup copyright 1986 in the e-brake cover/ashtray (my car is a '93, how did an, at the time, 7yo ketchup packet get there?) I also broke and replaced some rear hard brake lines and redid the rear calipers, shoes and hardware. Cleaned and repacked the bearings, then patched up a rust hole in the wheel well.
Lol. I don't always cry when I work on my car thoughLast edited by crazyrog17; 10-29-2013, 07:55 PM.-Zack
