  • Festiva Racecar #78

So, I picked up my second festiva on saturday. Then I autocrossed it on Sunday.

This car has been road racing for many years with SCCA and Midwestern Council (MCSCC) mostly in and around the Wisconsin area (since 1998 says the logbook). I grew up going to MCSCC races and this car has been racing there for almost as long as I remember. This car is a big part of the reason why I like these cars so much and why I bought my first Festiva. I plan on autocrossing it in the Chicagoland area for the immediate future and then road race it, probably next season, though. If you're in the area and want to join in autocrossing, let me know.

*That's my buddies Honda Civic Si.

Its alot of car, and is nothing like my other festiva. It is remarkably stock, as it had to be as per the rulebooks it opperated under.

Ill add more pictures as I take can take them. Unfortunately it is living in a borrowed garage about 30 minutes from me until I can find an enclosed trailer to house it in.

If you have any questions, ask away. I'll post more info as I compile it.

I'm guessing that this car would not qualify as 'downright honest' by GenevaDirt's standards, or it wouldn't still be out there on the race circuit after all these years.
What do ya have hidden away in that thing (that you know about) anyways? Certainly not a B3 I would think.

So, here is much of what i know about it.

Engine - B3. Carbureted with a weber 32/36. Oil Cooler.
Trans - I've got a mix of trannies with it, but he ran a 4 speed with different gears depending on the track.
Brakes - Stock Festy. Hawk pads for the RX3 on the front (with a bit a grinding). Porterfield shoes for the rear.
Suspension - Carrera 3-way adjustable shocks that I think are custom for this car.
Wheels - They are the older style 3 piece Keizers. 13x6 i believe. I dont know the offset yet.
Tires - He was running SRF tires, which is a class in club racing. I'm going to be buying something more suited to autocrossing for this season.

I plan on getting the car somewhere where I can work on it and document all the other stuff I don't know soon.

I have run with Windy City Miata a bunch in the past. Usually breaking our formula car, though. I'll probably run with them this season a few times. They're great people. This season I only see Alexian Field, Maywood, and Tire Rack on their schedule. Is Flyer's Stadium Alexian Field?

Awesome buy! These cars are a blast on the track. I'm interested in what spring rates work best for you.

So, I got the festiva all straightened out and put together and out on the track. First race back was this weekend at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, Mi. Went really well. 6th place out of 10 finishers. I finished ahead of a much faster scirocco by keeping the pressure on him through the corners and getting him to spin twice under pressure. There should be a nice little video attached to this of the first lap of me fighting off a '86 civic si.
