  • 89' 323 Hatch KLDE swap

So Neanderpaul wants a 4spd auto/B6T swap in his festiva, so back in february i found a donor car in Bowmanville and brought it home as the donor car for the 4 spd auto

I originally intended to do the swap for him but plans have changed and i just plan to pull the B6/4 spd auto and deliver it to neanderpaul so the swap can be completed in NC, Over all the car is in great shape with pretty low mileage, it did not run which i found out was due to the fuel pump not working, after i jumped it i got it to fire up

    146k kms on it (roughly 87k miles) w00t w00t

So once the drivetrain is pulled, the car would be pretty much useless, but a local buddy of mine has wanted a BF 323 for a while to swap a KL into, so he is going to be buying the shell and i will be doing the swap for him

We've already go the motor lined up, i actually pulled it from the donor car about a month ago and am just waiting to bring it to my place, but since i plan to deliver the B6/4spd auto in 2 weeks, it's time to get it pulled, so Sunday i pulled it into the garage to get ready for surgery

The plan is to do the same as i did in my festiva, that is to swap in a 26 spline diff into the KL trans and run 323 GT axles and probably a mild wire tuck, nothing too fancy, but a nice clean install

Well last night I got a couple hours on the car, the passenger side axle just will not come out of the tranny, so I ended up separating the inner CV joint to leave the cup in the trans

By the time I was done fighting with that axle I called it a night..... All that's left is to drop the exhaust and lift the motor/trans out which i'm hoping to do tonight

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

What a find! Shame it has to have surgery at only 87k miles!

I thought Paul was after a G4A-HL (hydro controlled)? If it has an OD cancel button on the shifter, its an F4A-EL (electronically controlled)... basically an Escort 4EAT.

the G4H-AL has an OD cancel button as well, at least my FSM says so: simple solenoid lock out circuit.

Sorry for the dark pics, but got the motor/trans out today i also pulled the shifter since it has the O/D button on it, which can be installed into Paul's festiva to look and work like factory

It will most likely be a while until my next update on this build, but be patient and progress will eventually be made
