  • Ape's 1992 Festiva

So it has finally happened! I am the owner of a '92 Ford Festiva! Going to try and keep this thread up to date with the progress I make bringing this Festiva back to as close to stock as I can with a few mods but nothing extreme and no lowering involved.

But, as she sits.. I paid $600. It was originally white, was painted in a half a$$ fashion yellow then got a "get er done" John Deer spray job. Hoping brake cleaner or Graffiti remover will take it back to the orignal white. It will need a new drivers fender and door. And probably a hood to get back straight. There is some rust under the back of the car and the front of the drivers rear wheel well is made of bondo. There is a leak somewhere in the brake system which has given it poor braking obviously. But mechanically its sound, drove 65mph for 60 miles on the way home tonight and had no issues. Also it will need a new exhaust because it has a glass pack.. And the speedo gear is worn so the speedo jumps alot.

Kind of worried my love for Festivas got in the way of getting the best bang for my buck but atleast she drives and is somewhat rust free.

    The plans as of now:
    Brake work
    Engine tune
Trans flush and speedo gear fixed
    Coolant system flush
    Spray paint removal
    Body panel replacement
    Rust treatment with POR15
    Interior panel hunt down
    Seat replacement
    Aspire brake swap

Oh yeah forgot to mention, dash has ZERO cracks and it came with original owners manual. That was a first in my many vehicle purchase's.

    Now for some teaser pictures!

Apparently it was in a accident with a Jeep, hince the driverside body issues. It drove away and the Jeep was towed lol

Didn't even remove the license plate to paint! :eeeeeek:

Decent interior, only the drivers seat has a tear.

    Engine bay has potential

Glad you got a Festy! Glad to see this one didn't head to the junkers! (No offense, but it was headed down that road!) Excited to see what you do with this. From recent personal experience, check your rear wheel cylinders for that brake leak. That's where mine was.

Your close Gabe, got her up on the lift at work today and its the drivers side hard line on the rear axle has rusted out. Simple fix!

But yea this ole girl was defiantly on her way to the yard and she still looks like it! haha But I will get her back right, I've dealt with a lot worse restoring Volkswagens though. Atleast this one will be a runner project so the love with be kept alive!

Looks like John Deere Green. Rustoleum Forest Green dries that color.

Yup, guy I bought it from was decked out in John Deer gear when I went and picked her up, hince the color choice! But grabbed some 200 grit sandpaper from work today and dicked around wet sanding for a couple of minutes. And I gotta say, the green comes off really fast and the yellow underneath is a lot better quality than I thought. Someone actually shot it out of a gun! So while waiting on cash for parts I'm going to wet sand all the green off and try the
"$50 paint job" idea. Probably will go with white to match the interior and engine bay. Atleast it will look decent and be A LOT better than its current skin!

But took some better shots in the day light today, sadly the sun doesn't help her any lol

Think you can still buy the video? Doubt it

One of my festys had been painted with spray paint,I used some citrus pain remover and pressure washed those panels one by one and got it off without taking off the factory paint. Then I used compound and got the old factory paint to look pretty good.
