^ +1 flat clears are awesome but if you have to do any sanding and buffing you can bring a shine back to a flat clear, at least the line of clears we use. (martin senour)

Originally posted by Bert View PostThis is sage advice. Thanks to under-powered, and cheap, MIG welders make lots of novices seem to think they've become expert welders, until the altered parts suddenly let go. Practice and more practice and then some more, and as Movin says; try breaking the welded parts before you trust them to be sound in use. If your practice pieces break somewhere other than the weld then you're well on your way.
And I have a little different front mount in mind now. It is a solid rubber mount for a 1995 SC Thunderbird. It allows me to just elongate the back hole and will be able to use angle iron for the bracket.

And because it is solid, I think it will hold this in position much better.Rodney

Well this front trans mount will be quite nice.
I have a bit of different steel to buy and it will make it an easy mount to make.
And for those with a different combination of transmissions, this mount is flexible enough to accommodate. Simply move the motor mount hole and its' set.
Hopefully I will not have trouble with the radiator, but as it looks right now the turbo piping is the way instead of the mount.
Stay tuned for pictures.Rodney

Welded up my bracket.
Welding this thick of material is actually pretty easy. Take a look at this baby.
I slotted the mounting hole just a bit so I can move the motor left and right.
This mount will work for many combinations.

And weighed my 03 Rio knuckle, caliper, rotor assembly. 38 pounds. Hmmmm pretty stout. Funny too, they had ABS only on one side. What if the other wheel locked up???Last edited by rbrown; 12-30-2012, 11:39 PM.Rodney

Well mounted the stock G series mount back in the back mount location. Thought I could spot it and drill a new hole to mount.
Nope. Much too thick. On to plan E.Rodney

Well after getting this thing all squared up (or as close as you can get), I find that the rear stock Capri mount is like finding gold. So I am off to plan E.
I made all my measurements with this IMG_1875.jpg so I can make all sorts of measurements showing me exactly where all this lines up at.
But I have found out that the rear Capri mount is rare. So I am going to make a mount with the stock Festiva one. I want rubber in there.Rodney

These mounts are making me crazy.
NOW I am going back to the Aspire type rear mount. My jig I made allows me to measure everything so I know exactly where this will sit.
I have to allow for sag on these mounts though and I am a little worried.Rodney

how's it going as i have a swap coming up with the same issue, mounting the motor.
Just curious to know what the mount is like now? has it been fitted at all and could you please add up a write-up for this mount at all?
could you also draw up a diagram with measurements and upload it so other members can use this information too?Ford Festiva 1991 WA Model (5 Door)

I will post up the complete 3 mounts when I get this finished.
The rear trans mount is now a Escort mount from a 1.9L. It is very small and fits in back nicely.
This has made me crazy. I want rubber in the mounts and finding a perfect set is difficult.
I am getting rather good at welding though. :thumbs_up:Rodney

Well this is driving me crazier.
I have this mounted and pulled the engine to do a bit more trimming at the steering rack. Well even with the trimming it still hits.
I just do not know how you guys get around that part of your builds.Last edited by rbrown; 03-10-2013, 10:29 AM.Rodney

Fought with the timing belt. Found out interesting stuff. Again I am too much of a perfectionist.
But...
Turns out if you get the exhaust and crank lined up, the intake will be off about 1/2 a tooth, until you loosen the tensioner. And low-and-behold it lines up perfect once you put the tension on the belt.
And we have decided that I am going to turn this build into a mini-me Flex (95% sure). Was going with a satin Aqua but if I can make the top look good Cinnamon will be the new color.Rodney
