Man, I am so envious of this generation!! I devoted over 20 years of my life to get to the point to where my peers consider me an expert engine builder. After building 100's & 100's of engines, multiple championships, 1,000's of hrs of dyno & flowbench time & countless hrs perfecting machining processes & here all I had to do was Google "Engine Building" & watch a 4 min 32 sec YouTube video & become a "Seasoned Pro". Isn't the internet grand?PROPOGATE! AND FACILITATE!

For what its worth Matt,I always listen to my machinist. If he says pat my head & rub my belly when doing my break-in. I do it-Some people like to read fiction,I prefer to read repair manuals. Weird I know-

Re: My n/a super b3 build
Matt is making me some shims right now, I have been on the phone with him trying to figure it out but we're not sure what happened... It was only the intake side, all the exhaust lha's had 0 gap

LOL, that's even more bizarre. Are you positive the HLA were getting plenty of oil and pumping up completely? The shafts are on the proper sides and oriented correctly so all the oil feed holes line up with the rockers? I know it sounds elementary, but you know how it goes...the simplest answer is usually the right one, LOL. It just seems a little coincidental since all the intake rockers are on their own seperate rocker shaft. Maybe it was just a fluke that happened on the initial break-in. Hopefully, everything will correct itself. I had almost the exact same issue on a B8. I had the valvetrain off of it 3 times trying to figure out why the exhaust HLAs wouldn't pump up. Then, by chance, I noticed that one of the threaded holes for the bolts that hold the rocker shaft down had been helicoiled by someone. A very minute portion of the helicoil was sticking up above the shaft saddle and not letting the shaft seat down properly on the head. Without an air tight seal, the oil pressure in the shaft was not enough to feed the HLAs properly. I snipped off the end of the helicoil with wire cutters, put it back together and never had another issue with it.Last edited by blkfordsedan; 03-02-2013, 12:59 AM.Brian
