  • Marton's 1988 Ford Festiva L build thread

WOOHOO! Finally got the Festiva! I have been waiting, and waiting for her. She is a 1988 Ford Festiva L with the B3 carbureted Engine and the 4 speed manual Transmission. It's late, and tomorrow is School, so I will post a picture or two today, and will post more and a full description tomorrow.

    Here she is, lol.

Ok, now a quick question. Am I the only one having an issue with Photobucket? When I go to the upload page, I select the photo's I want to upload, but it never start's to upload them.

      Nice!

Photobucket is browser picky. If your browser isn't up to date, or for some reason you're still using internet exporer... try Chrome or Firefox.

Ok, so a little more about the car. It has just below 128,000 mile's, has a semi-rebuilt Carburetor, and has SOME body damage. We bought the car for about $800 and it didn't run. Replaced the Mechanical Fuel Pump with an Inline Electric Fuel Pump, and semi-rebuilt the Carburetor. Other than that, this car run's like a champ. I plan to do a BP+T/G25mr swap, full Rio suspension swap, or even the MK2 Coil-Over's with the Aspire Rear Beam swap so I'll get the 4x100 bolt pattern, and other small thing's like maybe a nice Gray/Black Paint, with some Neon Green Volk TE37 rim's (14x6 4x100), and Neon Orange Rear Beam, Caliper's, Knuckle's, etc. Plan is to make the car REALLY REALLY nice, and be different at the same time.

First, some of the damage to the BODY.

This is under the passenger door.

        A little fender rust.

        A picture of the Engine.

        Now, random picture's.

You should get a stock mechanical fuel pump. They're only $40-something.

i agree with using the electric fuel pump. it will alleviate some of the parasitic loss off of the engine and possible add some more mpgs. help gain some more efficiency.
                Running 40psi.....in my tires.

Thank you guy's. Yeah, I would go back to the Mechanical Fuel Pump, but I don't think I'll be doing much with this Engine and Transmission setup; I mean, it run's good with the Electric Fuel Pump, hasn't given me trouble, and the Engine and Transmission will be swapped out soon. I know this a big thing to do and honestly doubt it will be done, but I plan to have it done BEFORE FM7. So, this give's me 9 month's to get everything done, painted, and running/broken in. Oh, I told my Mom that I have 9 month's to get everything done on the Festiva, told Her I have a lot of hard work ahead, and She said "It'll be your little baby, since it'll be done in 9 month's." Only Her, lol.

Now, I'm definitely powder coating the Wheel's Neon Green and the Small stuff like the Caliper's, Drum's, Coil's, Rear Beam, etc, Neon Orange. But I don't know what color I should paint the Body. I was thinking of a Grayish color or Black, but, I was also thinking of a Dark Metallic Purple with maybe some Flake's and a nice Clear Coat.

Ok, so I have an idea for a sub woofer enclosure. Does anyone know how many CU.FT the spare tire well is?

I still have an extra set of dual carbs for sale, if you really want to be different.

Thanks, but I don't really plan on doing much with the carb. setup since I'm looking for a BP engine. Now, on the carb. engines, where is a good vacuum line to put a little bit of Sea Foam in? I plan on doing a piston soak, pour the Sea Foam in the the PCV valve (just a little bit) and some in the gas tank, but, I don't know which vacuum line to use? Is it even a good idea to pour Sea Foam in ANY vacuum line?

Another question I had was what kind of gas does the B3 engines like? I used to put premium in the Aspire, but it has NGK platinum plugs. The Festiva just has copper I think.

Hey guys, its been a while since I worked on my Festiva. Today, my electric fuel pump quit. I went to Auto-Zone and got a Spectra Premium fuel pump. They had two kinds, the one I got is 2.5-4.5 flow rate, and the other one is 5-9 flow rate. Is the 2.5-4.5 flow rate good for a carbureted engine? Or should I go get the other one, which is cheaper. I also picked up three feet of 5/16" fuel line, and a Fram G8018 fuel filter from Wal-Mart (hehe, my cheap self .) My only concern is if the 2.5-4.5 flow rate is good for the carburetors. Any other helpful tips or ideas would be great, and I wont be using the butt conectors that came with the pump, but will be soldering the wires for a good connection.

P.S. to the people that may tell me to go with the mechanical fuel pump, I know that's what's "called for" but we have been through three mechanical pumps in a single year, while the electric pump lasted us two years.

Ok, another question I have. Do the carbureted cars have the spot on the hanger in the gas tank to hang the fuel pump so it is INSIDE the tank?

What if you get a flat tire?
Doesn't the law state that every vehicle must carry a spare?
