  • FESTYCUL GETS NEW PARTS

I have had Festycul for about a month now, I relly enjoy driving the car and waxing Hondas! I would like to start a thread on some of the things that I plan on improving for Festycul.

    Arrival Pic

First thing I had to do was to get ride of those crappy Protege Seats, i scored a really nice set of Bride Low Max's At Import Alliance 2013

The seat rails/ brackets needed to be modified to get the seat mounted. It needed top be raised 4" and brought forward aproximately 5". I desined a few diifferent bracket, but this is what I came up with, I made these at work. I designed them with CAD (Inventor 2013) and ran a few FEA cases on them to make sure the were going to be strong enough. Once I was happy with the design I cut them out on the water jet at work, then formed them on the brake press.

I printed templets and cut them out, to check fitment and placement

Cutting them out on the water jet ( i have a good video but don't know how to post it)

They look prone to folding over when bolted on in that orientation. Otherwise, nice.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

It is a rear Festiva bumper that has been tucked 4"(ish)

I was concerned as well with them "folding over", but the part is designed using 10 GA, 60 KSI max material. I ran some FEA (finite element analysis) cases to verify they would not.

The yellow arrow depicts a 500lb (edit: I weigh about 130lbs with my pockets full of tools) force being applied to the front face of the bracket, the bottom face of the mounting flange was fixed (bolted down) for the simulation

Image below depics the displacement (how much the bracket deforms) of the bracket in inches, refer to the color ledgend

Image below depics the internal stress of the bracket, refer to color ledgend (note: now where near the 60KSI max)

after looking at the stress tests, normal use will not result in a collapse, but i would be concerned about folding in the event of a crash (*140lb of potential energy x 10+g of impact force durring collision event). i would like to see a few gussets and/or tie plates to the chassis of the car.

Safety Third!!! (look it up and you'll understand if you don't already do)

That was intended with no disrespect, I had the same concern with the part and addressed it specifically
