  • Tired of this sh*@ blown up b3 left and right

Finally got my motor done and what do ya know. Boom lets start talkin swaps for under 700

search "needs clutch" for complete donor cars, of escort GT, protege, kia rio, mx-3 and so on. Seems to find good stuff all the time. Reasoning: needs clutch meaning engine probably runs fine, needs clutch again meaning youll have the correct ecu, sensors hoses and all the goodies if you use that trans, and the mounts. If time is an issue and space is not, having a whole car to swap things over how they go is very much worth it rather than a pile of yanked out stuff in the back of a truck then a pile at your garage to be sorted and gone thru at still another date. Trust me i know.

How commen is it for a b3 oil pump to go bad? I don't think I have a knock I think it's just the head not getting oil cause its a tick not a knock and when it first starts up there's no tick then it starts quiet and get louder maybe a head gasket idk any thoughts? May upload a video in the morning

Personally, I've not seen an oil pump go bad yet and all the engines I've rebuilt have had oil pumps that spec'd out great and were reusable, but every engine is different with a different history or use and maintenance. You can check oil pressure pretty easily with a manual gauge. What year engine did you swap into the car. Sounds like you may have a hydraulic lash adjuster ticking if the new engine has them. If it's an early solid lift motor it may just need some adjustment. Definitely not a death sentence for these cars. If it's a hydraulic lift motor you can try changing the oil, but I'm assuming you did that when you swapped the new engine in. Some people have has success with adding some Marvel Mystery Oil to the crankcase. Sometimes the HLAs can take some time to pump up after sitting and the tick just goes away on its own after some use. I fired my car for the first time in 2 years last Thursday night and it ticked like crazy for a good 20 minutes....then it just went away. And this is on an Aspire crate motor with less than 25k on it. Worst case; if your original engine didn't have the HLA tick you can always swap the rocker assemblies from it to the new motor. Even if it's solid lift you can still swap it over just to get rid of the noise. Or, you remove your HLAs and replace them with new or known good used ones, or you can even clean your old ones. I've cleaned quite a few sets of used lash adjusters with good success.

Damn! Glad you didn't make the trip down south for my Miata trade lol, you'd be camping in a cornfield about now. My full b8 swap only cost me about 300 bucks total for everything, even new oil, fluids, plugs, wires etc.
