I finally picked up my first engine for a swap this evening!!! I have an 88L that used to be red but now has a matte black vinyl wrap http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/sh...ght=fade+black
After the water pump went an I needed to pull the engine anyways to replace the 4 speed with a 5 speed I figured while the engine was out I should put something a little more powerful in it. Since this is my first swap I wanted something relatively easy that I could mostly do by myself.
I got the engine from a 1993 automatic protege but I know where there is a manual protege that I can get the ECU, TPS and VAF. I got the engine with everything attached, minus the transmission, for $200 pulled. There was also 4 4x6 speakers in the car that were aftermarket and he threw those in there as well. The engine did have 190k miles in it but when I pulled the valve cover the rockers where golden. I'll post picks of that later
Here it it is the back of my truck. The guy left the trany and cross-member on for some reason, but it worked well in keeping the engine upright.
Since it was just me this is how I had to get it out of the bed of the truck.
Here is is swinging. The Festiva peeking around the corner has a bad engine but a good 5 speed which will bolt to this engine.
I had to wash it off because the bottom had mud on it where the guy at the yard set it in the mud after he pulled it. That didn't make me too happy :nono: But the green Festiva is my DD
Here is it decently cleaned off.
After a lot of effort I managed to roll this heavy a$$ bastard up into my garage. Here is also the Fetiva that this engine will be going into. The Merc on the left is an all original 1971
I also got those tower speakers from the back of the protege (the guy threw those in as well)
My goal is to clean this up, change all the necessary gaskets, seals, etc and get this engine into the Fetiva ASAP. I am also converting this over to EFI in the process. I have everything I need for that except the wiring and harness. I am also going to do and Aspire swap front and possibly back as well. I have most everything I need for that as well. I want this car to be my DD. Good mpgs with much better power . . . who can argue?
