  • McKabe's Miata Build.

Well I have been busy doing Miata stuff so I figured I would fill you in on my turbo Miata build, thanks for looking!
In October 2012 I acquired a 90 Miata, red Arizona car 180,000 miles. this is when I got it.

Spent a while catching up on maintainance, but recently started the "fun" mods. In February 2013 the girlfriend decided it was time to make the Miata a little more "me" so she ordered me a nice smiley face for the grill and some Jackson racing sway bars.

In spring 2013 I decided it was time to lower it, raceland coilovers were ordered. Around this time a also installed a LSD out of a 93. I picked up some stock hollow spokes, and a Hard Dog xtreme roll bar.

In the end of September 2013 at 198k miles my Miata suffered from small nose crank issues. Despite the horrific tragedy (i saw coming) I already had a bp out of a 96 sitting in the garage along with a speed6 k04 turbo.

I picked up a 99 trans and pulled it apart to make sure everything was okay. Just my luck, fifth gear synchro was completely broke in half which led to my first trans rebuild which went quite well.

Got the trans back together and started putting everything together.

    Out with the old.

    In with the new!

The most anticipated part of this build was seeing the intercooler behind the teeth. here it is!!

    Keep posted for more!

Oh my god I love it. I'd give up festivas in a heartbeat for that.

Thought about this, short wheel base would be a pain though, but sweet.

Is there even enough room for the engine to sit in the rwd config?

Oh we don't worry about that, if there is a will there is a way. Make a trans tunnel so it can sit back a little further

Yeah I remember the video on YouTube of that car. Looks like he made some serious compromises to get it all in there. I would have modified the firewall or something to get more room for the radiator and such.

I love miatas. My nephew, used to have a festiva, has a 96 BP+T with 246 hp at the wheels. What a party! Keep this thread up Mckabe!

As for converting a festiva to rwd Charlie said it best. After he started beating the miatas, and then almost everything else, people at the track asked him if he would make it rwd. He said "why, so I can be slower?"

He referenced the front suspension set up. How it is designed like an early (late 60's maybe?) Porsche.

Charlie's track videos tell the real story.
