  • Future proof gearbox (which one?) for Festiva 1.3L

I'll point that firstly that I'm in Australia so that will effect some availability of gearboxes most likely.

Synchro in 1st & 2nd is going, gearbox needs to go (or be rebuilt).

I'm thinking, since a major job has to be done, could I kill two birds with one stone and get the upgraded gearbox ready for the future engine power requirements?

    1. Is this even feasible or do I need a festiva gearbox to mate with the B3 engine.
    2. If it's possible, what would people recommend?

B6T or BPT are the eventual engine choice.

    Cheers in advance.

There are guys who use the stock trans with bigger Bs. If you don't beat on it, it can last.

Others have even blown the stock trans with the B3, so I'm not really sure you can say definite other than the trans is weak to begin with, so it's a crap shoot either way.

I'd try leaving the trans stock and using heavier/"better" lube like gear oil or some high quality motor oil. The Mobil 1 Euro Spec is my lube of choice. Then prepare with either an extra stock trans ready to go, or just forget all that and swap the trans with the engine it comes from when you do your bigger B swap.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

If your stock tranny is on its way out anyway and if swapped to a bigger tranny... F or G series.... It should be just fine on the B3, I can't see it hurting performance much until you're able to swap the engine for something bigger

      1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
      1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated. I have one 750km (470 miles) drive to do in it this week (moving) and then I'll look around for transmissions. Luckily my drive is mostly highways so 1st/2nd won't be needed much.
