  • Project Bandit update!

Well it's been down for two weeks, it appears the motor had a weak head gasket. Not a visible thing till you drive it and see what happens as it heat cycles etc, pulled the head off and checked the head, on intake valve was holding 24" vacuum and none of the exhaust or intake valves were holding even close to that, lesson learned when I buy a junkyard motor go past the valve cover and check head and block,

Well took the head and had machined and a 3 angle valve job simple but effective, head went back on last night and she lives WAY stronger holding boost and compression now! It's my fault didn't check the Head Gasket and I should have.. Oh well she's back!

Next item of business is suspension and I'm working on that now....

Drove it around the block that day and it was still having cooling issues, with the car on the rack looked carefully and realized that radiator had cracked at the bottom where the metal meets the plastic! Anyways got a new radiator and put it on and now everything is perfect! Runs strong and like a champ and has no issues to speak of, being 26 years old though that radiator I think just couldn't hold being daily driven with boost. I wanted a budget build and now I'm going back through and buttoning up the weak links.

I'm not sure if it's the half or full they both say 21x19x6 I'll have to look at the box and find the part number but it's de bigger than stock

Are you running a diverter valve at all?

EDIT: Just saw the BOV hanging there. May want to switch to a diverter, quicker spool and more consistent fueling in vacuum.

Tip: the forge style 1" valves that are designed to replace the Bosch plastic DV are good. If you get a Chinese copy then only run 1 o-ring, clean out the Chinese grease and run redline assembly lube with a viton o-ring. Those valves work good, but tend to stick the way they come. I can get you a u.s. made version of that valve for 90.00 plus shipping. They make them at one of the shops I work with.

Oh, and if you need any B6T parts keep me in mind, I'm close and might have what you need.

And I've got the perfect donor for your "other" festiva build you had mentioned.
