I will probably end up using a middle of the road paint for the new car. Spray gun with paint that will last longer than spray cans but not going to be $800 in materials.

If you're gonna spray paint go with ace rust stop the best spray paint I've ever used when festiver was a flat black/greyish that was no prep no cleaning and 30° weather and 95% of it stuck

My experience with budget paint is that as long as you get a decent surface for the paint to stick to and you lay the paint on flat, making it look nice come in when finishing. Like if you spray on red rust-oleum it's going to orange peel like a MF regardless how much prep you put into the body. Where you get results on cheap paint is wet sanding and buffing. You can get it to a glass reflection with the right amount of time. And if you don't like the red, it only cost ~50 dollars in materials.

Then, My Girlfriend and I traveled with a Convoy of Festivas, after leaving IL and heading to Indianapolis. The rest of my FMX adventure is outlined in this Imgur album. It contains at least 1 picture of every Festiva in attendance!

After that AutoX, I officially ruined my front wheel bearings and at least one CV axle. I then blew a brake line not 2 days later. With only a month left, I began to make repairs in preparation for Festiva Madness 10, another very long journey for my car.
I want to thank William, Paul, and Dennis for helping me get back on the road. Without you knowledge and parts, I would not have made the trip!
The Passenger CV ended up being the hardest part of the job. We ended up just leaving the cup in the transmission and replacing the rest with slightly used parts and new grease.

I then took the JDMSTIVA Autocrossing! Stock everything. I got dead last. It was a ton of fun!

I went to PA all the way from IL to visit my Friend who was working an internship. While I was down there, I had my car reviewed by RegualrCarReviews on youtube! You can check it out here:
And a short POV drive here:

Ok, I haven't updated this thread in a Long time, so I thought I should probably write a little bit. So here it is.
Not much has changed on the car parts wise. I was able to score a working hatch latch from the Junkyard, so I am finally able to open the hatch from the outside.
I bought Knockoff Hella Supertone Rally horns on ebay and got them installed. Huge improvement over stock, very loud for just electric, and look pretty cool in my grille.
I also installed some super cheap extended lug studs and giant red lug nuts for my stock wheels. Probably not the safest, but hey, it looks cool.

I understand.
Depending on color I could put more then 1000 dollars worth of materials on that car we just painted a 56 chevy and sprayed our cost of $3600 tricot yellow ppg vibrance line paint on it.
The cost is crazy but with good materials it will last a lifetime.

The lowest I was quoted was $2500, which is really out of budget since I am in school, and hard to justify on a $1000 carOriginally posted by william View PostIt's almost better to hold off and save for a shop to do it then do a not so good job and have a shop fix it later on.
I do this for a living and would much rather start with a factory paint job then go over some one elses work.
The paint job is only as good as what is under it.

I'm not sure yet. I'm likely going to be doing it myself, as I just don't have the money for a nice paint job from someone. Theastronaut is teaching me a couple things about prep and paint, hopefully it turns out alright

Hey that's a nice shell.
You can get the rear vents out by pushing them in and the rear glass is easy to remove also . It would make for a better paint jod the rear window at least.
Are you painting it or having it done?

There are a couple pictures on my Facebook and instagram, @WILLSAMET. It's currently fully stripped, being prepped for paint.
Here's a poor gallery
