  • LeMons/Chump car

A few members and I have been building and racing a 93. It started as a B8 swapped street car. Older cats around here might remember the build thread.

Ran once as B8 but team needed more power to dice with E30s. So BP swap was done(still F trans)

One event was ran this way, but used 2 QTS per hour. So before next event, motor was redone.

Once motor was redone, we still ached for more power.

See, in LeMons we run about mid pack. Nothing to write home about. Chumpcar is more competitive and we are last or so in every event.

Is the current setup a work in progress or are you driving it?

Car doesn't run yet. Trans swap is complete, waiting for machine shop to finish the manifold so we can get IC piping and wiring done.

Did you guys build a stronger lower rad support/sway bar mount? That car was a handful with just the BP. Lol

A length of angle iron on inside of lower support sandwiched between sway bar mounts/ cross member and unibody.

The biggest problem we have with the car is breakage. We've gone away from the cable adapter for the clutch because three out of four events we have problems with the clutch. The hydro clutch setup is stiffer on the left foot than the cable but should be very reliable. On dry pavement the car acts like its on suction cups, but any moisture on the track or weather colder than 40 degrees it's like a roller skate on an oiled surface.

You need to gusset to the frame rails to the front support as well to help the chassis resist distorting under acceleration, especially in corners.
See, the most important thing about setting up a FWD car for road racing is getting it to perform predictably under hard throttle while in a corner. This is the way us FWD guys cheat and leave the RWD cars in the dust. We throttle hard after turn in and pivot. If the car is doing weird things during this maneuver then it's hard to confidently attack the corners and make passes under traffic.
