  • Front Turn Signals/Running Lights

Has anyone changed the wiring on the Front Turn Signals to use the front corner running light as a Turn Signal? My idea is to use the amber corner lights as a turn signal and then mount some LED's is the bumper cover where the turn signal used to be and use them as a Running Light/Fog Light. The plug for the turn signal has three pins but the marker light has two. I haven't looked at it in great detail I was just wondering if anyone has any advice.

Someone posted a diagram of a way to use both so that they alternate (blinker on,marker off-then marker on, blinker off). I saved it somewhere and will try to find it.

        Hi Firebush,
I have done this a few times on multiple different cars. I did at one point have it done on the Festy. It is really simple. Step 1: Identify the - of the marker lamp and remove the car-side by cutting the wire. 2: Identify the + of the turn signal. Connect this to the bulb side of the - for the parking lamp identified in step 1.
Know that the marker does not provide a great turn signal when the lamps are off, the bulb wattage is low when comared to the normal lamp doing this job. It will turn off when the parking lamps are on providing an okay signal indicator at night.
I removed this wiring configuration and went with modifying the housing to accept an 1157 bulb and housing, this provided me with a much better marker lamp and a much more noticeable turn signal. The advantage of going with the 1157 was brightness and 3 connections (marker lamp/ground/turn lamp).......

I figured it would be dimmer do to the size of the bulb so I thought of replacing it with an LED bulb to compensate. Thanks for the info.

So I just read the Forum the Jawja Jim linked and BHazard commented that it doesn't work with LED's because they blink faster. Would the CAN Bus replacement LED's make a difference here? Someone else said something about an electronic flasher that he got from Autozone that worked. I guess I'll just have to try it for myself but I think I will wait a couple of weeks because I have a 4 day class next week (for work) on Basic Automotive Electrical Systems that might teach me some of this stuff...

I have LEDs in the front blinkers and tail blinkers and they were hyperflashing until I replaced the stock flasher with an electronic one. I don't know if the canbus LEDs alone will cure hyperflash, but my LEDs are cheapos and it did.
