  • Fast shouldn't be a handful. This has nothing to do with racing. The sway bar designates caster and wheel placement. You ever try to push one of those grocery carts that isn't quite right and it fights you the whole time your trying to shop? Add 350hp to that and enjoy.
There is no longer any frame between the two most critical points of your suspension on 1 side, and you've mentioned that the car was bent before this. You are a very lucky guy, so this may work for you, but if 10 other people did it, they would have ruined their cars. I'm explaining this for anyone interested, not just you. I'd like to keep Festiva owners safe. Have you checked the dimensions I've suggested?

    • I have check a few things. The car is not in great shape to start with. I had it going straight until crazy torque kicked in and then she would just dance. That day i pulled it apart it would dance but it was very controllable! Thats with the car being bent up like a crushed pop can. Im not to worried about the car at this point. Knowing the fron is smashed.

Ill get it sttaight the best i can with the alignment afterwards. If it doesnt axt right ill transplant. No big deal. If i transplant i now know what to and not to do!

      • K. You can kinda fudge it a bit with washers stacked up in front of the sway bar to control arm bushing on the short side (which will most likely end up being that side you are welding on) but that only gives you 1/8" or so to play with. I know you aren't seeing what I'm saying about the relation between all these mounting points, but it is a big deal. When these points are out of proportion, the car will wander badly under acceleration and deceleration. With it cut apart, you have the chance to make the car straight with a few simple measurements and some careful planning. It's easier to do it right the first time than to do it twice. I'll say no more about this here.

I fully understand the function and relationship of said mounts. I am no welder. I can stick 2 chuncks together and make them hold for what i do. I do not understand welding enough to plan for heat shrinking and or know how to control how and when it happens. So for me i do the best i can and if that doesnt work i ppay to have it redone the right way. So i wish i could do perfectly as you wish but i myself have limits on what i can actually do. I am all new to all this. i am learning. i understand where you are coming from but you must understand that i am not on your level by any means. I should have done the hammer method. I didnt know the frame would warp so easily. But i learn best by dealing with issues and fixing them.

Once the car is back together i can remeasure all the different spots and try to come up with a plane to straighten them out. But i cant do that at the weld stage at this time.

            • Well if it's out of square, I could throw it on the frame rack for yah and yank it back square.
I'm gunna put mine up on the pinch weld clamps before doing my core suport mod to keep it straight.
              Hope it's all still good.

                        • Just need to drive it here on a Saturday with plenty of time for me to set it up and pull

Our computer has the specks for the festiva so I won't even have to break out the tram gauge.
I'll have to ask the boss when the racks free and I'll let you know.

                            • Took the night off last night. Well i didnt work on the cars that is. A few bike parts showed up for the wifes bike so i put them on. Tonight i will finish up the frame tho. Tomorrow i will have the car running again. I will reclean the engine bar and respray and little here and there. I will have time to add some clear as well i think. I will have overkill back on the road very soon.

I think i will add the trunk mount meth kit to overkill.

                              • Had a good weekend on the car! Spent a lot of time with the wife so not as much car work was done as i could have done! Im not complaining tho. I have plenty of time to finish it up. I could have had the motor in this weekend but somehow i put the reverse lever in wrong in the trans. I ended up having to split the case back open and redo it. All gears shift smoothly, and all gears turn smoothly. It seems as the trans is in good condition. I will bolt the trans to the block tonight and have the motor in the bay. Still waiting on my inner control arms to come in.

Kia rio power rack is installed (i hate doing that mod) Its so hard to get inside that damn rubber guard. I was gonna take it off from the inside but that was to much trouble. I took the steering column lose and took the knuckle off the lower column. I then put the knuckle onto the new rack. I then fished the knuckle up through the rubber/hole. I put two bolts into the rack to hold it. I then put the steering column back on the knuckle from the inside. It sucked. My knuckle is also about done for. ILl need a new one soon. Might steal the one from my new car!

I also got some more paint on the bay with a few coats of clear. shes looking nice now! I just gotta try to install the motor without bashing it to bad. I might get a bunch of cardboard to line the bay to help protect the paint.
