  • Project Slow Festiva - Track Prepped, Daily Driven

Hey yall. Howdy from Austin, TX. I have spent a good chunk of time here now and felt it was finally time to start a build thread.

I am going to reserve a few posts for future retroactive updates, to log the POs modifications and progress.

I'll start with a little about me. I'm a casual gearhead who loves to learn and live cars. I am all about the classics as well as the future of automotive tech., but my heart definitely lies somewhere in the 80s/90s Japanese Imports. I love em! I'm not a competitive racer but I can occassionally be found at the nearby tracks or local AutoX. I'm in it for the fun, not the medal!

Okay, now to share a bit of the history behind this lil Festy. I'll start with the PO.

      Reserved for future retro updates

Basic intro. Based on short conversations with the PO, he bought it as a first car 13 years ago down in Corpus Crusty for $300, needed a clutch. Used as a delivery car for a bit, then sat for a few years. As funds accumulated as well as curiosity, Chris eventually decided to begin turning this car into the track beast it is today. And so began the story of the Ford FunkSteeza.

Good to see more action in the Lone Star State. Thanks for starting a build thread. What are your plans?

Plans are nonchalant. Nothing competitive, just fun on the street and track. Right now my biggest plan is to make the car more street friendly.

First things I did were replace the battery and starter, tighten up the alternator belt, and a fluid change. The engine was rebuilt 5k back and only has 130k on it total. The drivetrain is very sound.

Next up began removal of some of the POs stickers. Don'tworry! The ones inside will stay. Eventually the car is going to be a nice shade of dirty ass yellow.

I also decided to try fitting the 15x8 wheels I have for my miata and they fit great, just rub the shocks.. so +25mm spacers were necessary. (The wheels are +25 so the spacers basically just made the wheel 0 offset, for those looking into fitment. 195/50/15 tires) after fully installing they look and feel great. Nice to have some new rubber on, those poor old sumitomos were dead.

Yesterday I finally got the passenger door open and it nearly fell off completely! Got some fresh grade 8 bolts installed and managed to fix the window and lube the guides. Doors functional, windows too!

I think the Shelby gt40s had a similar ram air brake cooler and they had problems cracking rotors with the Rapid heating and cooling idk if that'd apply here but just a Heads up

The festiva rotors are solid. Much less likely to crack than the GT40 brakes, especially with a B3 powered festiva as braking is not necessary on the track with a B3, lol.

This is true! Haha. The rotor itself is very thick, so it shouldn't heat or cool very quickly. Its a lot of thermal mass. I can imagine the GT40 had crazy thin rotors for weight reduction, or perhaps atleast vented which would also reduce thermal mass. Thanks for the heads up though, hadnt even crossed my mind

Festyboy might know better than I... the PO installed them. He said they were actually for a miata? Haha. I think the front bumper is from an escort GT?

Looking closer, mk1 (a1) GTI flares don't have bolt flanges. Those have to be mx5 aftermarket units
