  • Heavyfire14's 88 L build thread

Well yesterday i acquired my first festy for $700 in near perfect condition. I decided to do some mods to it and make this build thread to track my progress. So to start this is what it looked like yesterday.

Welcome to the family! Depending on where at you are in Arizona, you should talk to Charlie. (Advancedynamix here on the forums) he has done a lot to make the Festiva a performance machine.

Woke up early in the am to beat the 120° heat and started working on it (ended up working on it all day in the heat anyway) first thing this morning i had someone come vacuum and charge the ac cause it wasnt working and 35 bucks later it was actually cold. Then i decided to fix my sloppy shifter. After a bit of reading on here i did the shifter mod with stuff from lowes. I used slightly different parts because they didnt have what i needed. Instead of shouldered 1/2" bolts i used 3/8 stainless (they didnt have grade 8) bolts with some cool sleeves i found that were perfect (1/2" od 3/8" id) and some stainless washers and nylon washers. I only had to drill 2 holes up one size to 3/8". I put antiseize on EVERYTHING, not even kidding that stuff gets everywhere, i looked like the tin man by the time it was all back together. Also i used nylocks instead of lock washers.. But i got it back together and the difference was night and day!

After that i decided to tint the tail lights. So I went to autozone and got some spray tint and got to work lol. It said on the can not to do more then 4 coats. So i did 4 coats on the front signals an 6 on the tails because 4 wasn't dark enough. Im actually pretty happy with how it came out.
After that i realized my dome light didn't work so i took it off, checked the power and saw that it was good and sanded all the contacts and threw it back together and that did the trick!
I looked at all the bulbs and ordered some leds off ebay and some hids from amazon. I also ordered a stereo install kit and harness so i could put a lil single din stereo in, am only just doesnt cut it for me haha

If you want some really awesome dome lighting, upgrade to an Escort Domelight. It bolts in, all you gotta do is wire it up. It adds front facing Map Lights to help light up the inside.

I even have a mod to convert it to a full LED pod with LED spotlights! I have a few other LED conversions and brightness tips if you are interested.

I am subscribing to this build thread for sure!

So today i drove 150 miles round trip to get my exhaust done on the festy. Put in a single chamber and deleted the cat. Sounds freaking awesome lol a lil raspy but i like it but one thing i decided is going to happen very soon is im going to do an egr delete. The carb also needs to be tuned badly, it hesitates a bit. But overall i think im in love

Nice! Why did you get rid of the cat? Was it plugged? The raspyness is very much due to no cat. You need a resonater, perhaps 2.

Nice car. You're super lucky to be in AZ also. I would be taking advantage of Charlie's wisdom a lot more if I were there.

The car is actually originally from portland then the guy i bought it from actually had it in nebraska and drove it to az from there and i bought it here in yuma. Kinda just in the right place at the right time. I saw it while i was driving down ave b on my way to look at a different car lol

Little update btw. Yesterday I changed out the am stereo for a dual bluetooth stereo and added 2 boss 6x9s in the rear. Please dont judge how i cut it with straight lines lol i literally used a steak knife to cut the plastic because that's all i had. Then today i installed a set of 9004 6k bi xenon hids! Everything is coming out just how i want it. Except the car cuts out when you floor it or itll studder sometimes. Not really liking the electronic feedback carb so very soon ill be purchasing a carb adapter and throwing a weber on it and that should fix my issue

Nice blue headlights... When they fail, I recommend you replace them with 4300k or 5000k, you'll see better at night.
