  • Britstiva/B6T has begun

I now have Britstiva in the garage and ready to start the build. Britstiva is going B6t with rocketchip. It will have a stock manifold and a vj11/14 hybrid turbo and intercooler setup on it. Britstiva will also get a full advanced suspension on it. I hope to finish the build in a month.

I do have a guy in line to buy the car. And if he backs down i might just hang on to it. I would love to daily drive britstiva for a bit...

I will be gone this weekend so i wont get anything done on it but i will be working on it very soon. I hope to have the motor on the floor tonight.

Sounds like you're off to a good start! What kind of intercooler are you going with? Sounds really exciting.

Im not sure what it is. I bought it with all the piping made to fit the festiva from another member. Im not sure how well of a kit it is tho. I may end up replacing the piping with my own stuff. Will use his as a guide tho. Just depends on how it all fits and looks. Im not gonna put out junk.

Got the motor out in about 2 hours. Could have been much less if my helper would have put their phone down. We got it out with no trouble tho.

Front bumper and upper crash bar is off. motor is out. and the car is ready for the core support.

Im gonna go pick up a chop saw 1st tho. Been wanting one for a long time now is a good time. Gonna make a jig for the motor mounts and pump a few sets out to try to make a little extra cash as well.

Are the mounts that you are making for swapping the Xr2 trans too, or is it just the passenger side mount what for using the stock trans?

I have the core support finished for Britstiva and last night i patch the one area under the hood that was cut or something. It didnt look like it was a rust hole. looks like it was cut open for no reason. Either way i fixed it up. Tonight ill hit it with a little paint and it will look nearly factory. Im prepping the motor tonight as well. Gotta make sure she is all clean before i stick her in there. Might even get the front suspension put on tonight. The car is coming along well. Once the motor is ready to go in it wont take long after that to finish her up.

I welded plate to the car in 16g. I then welded 1/4" plate to that. I cut the 1/4" plate a hair small in every direction so that i could put a nice large bevel on the plate to make welding to the 16g easier. It worked great! I used the old pic from gomez for the size on the 16g plate. the 1/4" plate i just trimmed down on all side and then beveled it after the trimming. I was gonna notch the bar so when it mounted up the bolt holes for the cross member would be in the middle. But i went a different way this time. I welded the bar like my other ones. I then cut up some plate and welded it to the stock sway bar bracket to extend the bracket. Now the sawy bar bracket mounts in the middle of the support bar. i drilled holes in the support bar on top to allow a easy install of the bolts. I still have to drill holes for the cross member to mount up. Not 100% sure how i want to do this yet tho. will see once i get the motor in the right spot.

I want to try a new method! Rather then making a large bar that bolts or welds to the plate on the body i want to weld the palte to the body then weld the bar straight to that plate. it would cut out having to weld the plate on the bar and then turn around and weld all that to the car. I think it would cut down on weld time as well as material and still be just as strong for a b6t. Gotta look at it more 1st.

I'm going to need to do this at some point. How difficult is it to not burn through the Festiva's chassis? I don't have a welder anymore, will a cheap MIG wire feed from Harbor Freight be enough for this?

Thats what i use. Dont use the wire from them tho. I get wire from Rural King. Its much better. I went with the 16g plate to the body 1st to help with the buring issue. You have to be very easy with it. The festiva metal is very thin and burns easy. Now if you were to use real mig wire and have gas hooked up you could use a small size wie .023 and that might be perfect. I used .030 wire and had the machine down on its lowest to do the 16g plate. I still had to patch holes on thin parts. The sections that welded the 16g plate to the frame ends was no problem it welded very good. Welding to the super thin metal outside of the frame ends was a bit harder. As long as you tie into the frame ends your good tho.

The frame end welds are what stiffen it up. As you weld them up weld by weld u can feel them become solid. Tack the plate onto the car and its still a wet noodle. Tack to the frame ends and it becomes very solid. Burn in and no issues.

If any of my randomness makes sense to you!!!
