diy exhaust

so my car is stupid loud - there's a rust hole where the exhaust bends by the gas tank and the muffler is just a little larger diameter than the pipe and just pushed on - it's not actually welded or has any connectors

i'd like to replace it, on the cheap, and get it as quiet as i can

i don't care about performance much.

1. any specific muffler you recommend?

2. should i put a flow through muffler then a normal muffler? will that help me much?

You can get an original exhaust pipe for 71.00 and a muffler for 31.00 on Rockauto. May be more than you want to spend though.

What do you want? Perfectly quiet or nice sound or rice? A resonator in the midsection helps a lot to de-rice and i have a flow thru 2in cherry bomb glasspack which sounded nice for quite a while. My oem muffler on the new one is very quiet.
Easiest way to get a new pipe is off another festiva...

Oops, i missed your quiet as you can. I used a honda civic resonator and new oem muffler. And lots of sound deadner. Very quiet.
Try and find a skinnier resonator, mine reduces ground clearance to 6 inches but i cut it off my 2003 civic parts car so it was free.

thanks - i ended up cutting the area out and patching the holes with some scrap steel i had lying around.







Now there are no more exhaust leaks and it's definitely quieter but it's still not as quiet as i was expecting

would a flow through muffler somewhere in the middle help me out? not sure if my muffler is stock either - it just says made in usa on it with an "A <===> B" which i have no idea what that means

oh, i heard if i neck down the tailpipe after the muffler it will quiet it down - is that true? it's a 2" exhaust - can i neck it down to 1.75"? 1.5"? or will that have some problem with back pressure

your muffler maybe rusted out on the inside.
