  • My long overdue red and blue cars build thread

Ok i'll start with blue in chronological order

Purchased for $998 from a guy on craigslist in August 2015
    1990 L+ auto b3 160k miles

Decide to check out this madness thing a 2 months later and made some festy friends
Also my timing was off and i had no power this whole time and got that fixed with some help

Did some stuff like back seat delete, red striped interior, wired up some speakers as well

Got an aspire swap from TTcustoms in 2016 ohiostiva

Got new wheels to go with it, also madness 2017!

    A bit of snow:

    Plastidipped wheels:

Unfortunately i crashed this one, It was raining and someone 3 cars ahead came to a sudden stop. I was decently far behind but I was going too fast to stop and slammed the brakes, slid about 40 feet and rear ended an suv going like maybe 15.

Lol like no damage to the sportage

Anyways Blue is still down but not giving up on this one!

Pulled the frame back out with ratchet straps:

Also gotta get a BP in there!

Ok thats it for blue now Red -----------------------------------------------------------
So since I crashed blue I needed a new car to drive.
Alex rodgers posted one for sale in michigan on facebook for a great price no rust and relatively low miles!
    A 1991 L 5 speed b3, Rust free but a whole lot of dents!

The side was crushed in at some point and replaced.
The door was from a white manual belt car and alex gave it a quick spray paint job to match, The rear quarter panel had been welded in and some attempt at bondo was made.
BUT mechanically this car was running awesome and alex recently put a lot of work in it.
Heres some pics alex took when he had it:

So anyways I drove out to michigan to buy it! Also I didn't know how to drive manual so it was quite a trip back.

    The transaction went well:

    Got er home:

First mission paint that quarter panel! I used rustoleum enamel spray paint wrong color but it shines
The door was a lighter shade of paint so it made the quarter panel look much darker.

    Next step speakers:
(Don't do this the shelf is totally annoying lol)

    Cleans up well!

    Here's how she looks now:
Got a new door and mudflaps at madness

Pulled a nice b6Me with 70k for red this week so stay tuned for that!

If you need any help on the B6ME transplant you can pm me. This is a fairly easy swap although there is not a lot of information here on the forum regarding it. There is however quite a bit of misinformation. Also I don't want to come off mean spirited however you said "I was decently far behind but going too fast to stop". If you tell that to the Judge he will tell you that you were not far enough behind for the speed you were going. I'm not trying to rub it in nor am I talking down to you. I have driven professionally for 16 years and have driven millions of miles and the biggest mistake I see people make is following too close. It's stupid and doesn't get you anywhere any sooner. If you follow too close to keep the a hole in the other lane from getting in front of you that is stupid. Let him in maybe he needs to get over or maybe he is a habitual lane changer. If that's the case he will soon be off in another lane cutting somebody else off. I can spot them a mile away when they are behind me. Also remember if you rear end somebody you are generally considered guilty 99.9% of the time. Good luck with the engine transplants!
'88 Festiva LX 5 speed, A/C, Carb, restored $$$ body paint, badly wrecked @ 200k.
'93 Festiva L, 5 speed, Aqua, bought from the original owner,.Zero rust but very nasty otherwise. Awaits the B6T.
'91 Festiva L, 5 speed, bought to drive while putting the B6T in the '93. now B6ME powered.

Cool thanks i'm thinking i should make a write up because I can't find one. looks pretty straightforward maybe an extra wire in distributor?

Heres a nice list of excuses:
I was like was like 6 car lengths. My reaction was slow because I didn't realize they stopped it was a normal place cars slow down.
The cars that hit were all SUPER close which is what caused the crash.
Also if I hadn't locked the brakes I could have probably stopped slower.
I wasn't considered guilty of anything because the car I hit was already totaled by the time I hit it lol.

No hydroplane, concrete and water suck i just locked the brakes, not the first time I've slid on this combo. They were 14" achilles though.

No extra wire at the distributor. See what I mean about misinformation. I just spent 30 minutes typing up an outline of the swap and when I hit submit I am told to sign in. When I sign in I find my write up has been saved. Actually about 3 sentences. This happens quite often. Makes you not want to post anything. If you need info. (and it sounds like you do) pm me directly. Good luck!

The other good one is " my buddy put a B6ME in his car and it wouldn't run over 3 grand". Hahaha. Mine pulls up to redline with no problems and it runs on the stock B3 fuel system / ECU. I'm even using the B3 injectors. You will need the B6ME distributor it plugs directly into the Festy harness. The B3 distributor will fit the B6ME but you will not be able to run the engine due to timing issues. The B6ME alternator makes life easier. The Festiva down pipe works with modifications. If you can grab the B6ME down pipe get it. Don't connect the throttle body to the air flow meter with ABS as shown on the forum. There's an easier ' cleaner way. I will keep these messages short so I don't get the "refresh page" need to sign in message.

What i have started doing on my phone and my computer on all websites, not just this one is when i am done typing something and ready to submit it i right click, hit select all, copy. Then submit. That way if something doesnt work i can paste it in again.

On the blue car was it just the upper rad support that was damaged? Or were the frame rails pulled in as well?

I agree on the upper shelf. I like it because it looks cleaner and makes the car a little quieter when the back seat is in, but you have to remove it a lot to use it as a festiva... i also have a hard time not putting too much it the back and then the speakers slam down on it when i close the door :/

I built a new shelf and a box from thicker plywood so it wouldn't rattle and even made it removable with plugs for the speakers.
                      Better pic

The frame rails and bumper are fine the front drivers side wing and core support were smashed, also battery, both radiators thermostat housing and vapor canister but nbd they're all replaceable.
