  • Festiva AutoX King

    I wanna make my Festiva into an AutoX king. I know its possible, i mean its half the weight and size of my other autoX car... i just want to show people that my little BlueBooger can run with the best of them.

    I have a 92' Festiva L 5speed with 92,000 miles on her. The exaust is rusted out so it sounds like a fart cannon. haha, its so loud. but yeah, Just wondering how i can make this little girl into a Cone King

    SUSPENSION and TIRES!!!!

    A good well stiff set of springs, with struts that are damped right for the spring rate.

    A GOOD set of sticky R compound tires.

    Stiffen up the body with strut braces, front and rear.

    A good autox alignment.

    POSSIBLY a phantom grip LSD?? jury still out on this product, no reports yet of how well it works.

    Fix the exhaust...

    Lighten it up... gut it out, etc...

    maybe swap a BP into it???

    Mine has potential to do MUCH better when I learn to drive a little more smoothly... lol..

    SUSPENSION SUSPENSION SUSPENSION in my opinion... at least that is where I am lacking...

        BP= 1.8 liter Mazda swap.. fairly easy swap.. not nearly as easy as a B6 (1.6l mazda) but still much easier than a non branded swap.

              First off you need to visit festivamotorsport.com for all of you goodies.....

              That said...... if I where you and i wanted to really kick some butt here's what I would do in order of importance.

              *Do a ford aspire brake swap....bigger brakes and better handling!

              once you have done that you can now upgrade your rims and tires for what you are doing I'd go with a 14'' lightweight rim with I believe it's a 195/45/14 tire.....I can remember the brand but a guy up here in Ontario is using that on his festy for auto-X and he loves them....

              when you do the aspire swap you will change your bolt pattern to the more common 4x100 (?) pattern found on civic's so there is plenty of rim choices....

              next i'd stiffen up your ride....as mentioned before strut braces , bushings , etc all can be found at festivamotorsport

              then I'd consider an engine swap a 1.6L SOCH B6 from a 323 is a bolt in plug and play swap

              After that you have a few other choices some would say BP 1.8L DOCH

              I prefer B6T 1.6L DOCH turbo......more power then a BP and lighter....but a little more complex and harder to find....

              If you did all of the above you will kill at the auto-X

              These little cars have a lot of potential.....never underestimate a festiva!!!!

              Hope this helps!

                B6T = 125 horsepower
                BP = 140 horsepower

                but you can get that B6T up to 200 horsepower with some add ons.

                  Apparently you can get the BP up to 304 + hp.

                    They are close in horsepower. You can build up any engine for more power depending on your budget. B6T's can make more than 200 HP. Ians made almost that much to the tires.

                    B6T = 132 HP
                    BP = 127 HP

                      A good running B6 is plenty, with the right suspension and tires... at least to start out with. Traction is my number one problem, and I have a B6 that only puts about 95hp to the tires.

                      There is a CRX with 108 crank HP KILLING my local club... he has more money in suspension and tires than in the rest of the car.

                      SUSPENSION.... TIRES... FTW

                        ^^^^^ yep you got it.....power is just a plus in AutoX......traction and handling are the most important thing......

                        Civic's and CRX's are actually a real good platform for autoX (independent rear suspension) I have a plane jane 4th gen civic 1.5L soch 4speed MTX that I autocross in an old factory.....man is that thing fun!!!!

                        Bottom line on the B6T vs BP ... B6T is a faster lighter engine but like I said before rare and more complex..... and for auto x 200-300 hp in a car like ours is actually more of a disadvantage.....too much wheelspin to tricky to get through the cones....plus when your running 14+psi of boost and your boost comes on in a corner.....forget it!

                        If I where doing AutoX in a festy..... and I had an engine swap BP or B6T I personally would run those engines fairly stock....no need for huge HP figures unless your building a car for the 1/4 mile

                        just my 2 cents

                          I thought the B6T only had 125 to the crank? And you all are probably right to much power in autoX with light shell and bad traction equals bad times.

                            Yes, Suspension-Good Tires-Brakes-LSD wins races. Lots of power is only good if it can be used. Most tracks use short runs to stop lots of top speed.

                            Thanks :wink:

                              the festivas can own the cmod class (under 2 liter unlimited)

                              thats the class im in, and i cleaned the board dry,

                              just take off the bumpers, leave the skins,

                              take out the dash, and strip everything possible out of the car. than tires, than worry about getting suspension, if you need any help with suspension setups PM me
