  • Trackday, My First HPDE Pics

I went to my first Road Racing School today. At the Driveway Austin, a brand new
high performance academy. It was a blast, the course was short and twisty so my
75 horses were almost just enough. By days end I was running on the ragged edge
at the top of third (top speed about 70ish). The best part was only two other
people showed up so we had 4 instructors for three students. Close to 4 hours
of track time, plus a free corner weighting and balance during one of the breaks.
This was by far the most fun I've had in the Festiva or any car ever. Everyone
was very impressed with the festiva especially Joe Bob my instructor.

Before pics some specs on my car from the scales.

Weight: 1818 Lbs (With me inside and almost a full tank of gas)

    Front/Rear distribution: 1121 Lbs Front 61.62% / 697Lbs Rear 38.38%

    Cross Weights: 939 Lbs Left 51.69% / 874 Lbs 48.39% Right

Final Cross Weights 50.1% Right (after adjustment).

    Onto pics.

A map of the Short Course for level 1 training. The facility has 5 different track layouts
with the main one being a 2.0 mile FIA spec course. As you move up in levels you run
on the longer faster tracks. This course is .54 miles.

Mine and the two other students cars.

Me and instructor Joe Bob (20 year veteran racer) before a solo session.

    Leaving Pit Lane

Below a series of pretty much a whole lap around the course.

    Awesome!

    Front shot of the group.

2005 BMW M3 Highly modified, 520 Supercharged Horses, coilovers, the works
His best lap 40.3~ secs, mine 40.8~ Secs! Thats right half a second behind a 500 hp
Supercar. Any way you slice it that is sweet.

This is simply the most fun you can have on 4 wheels. I even won a free practice
session for being the most consistent driver and having less than a .5 sec split
between my four final timed laps. If you like adrenalin and seat time, this is for you.

Shake and Bake! Why would anybody get a BMW, or any other vehicle for that matter, when they could have a Festiva?

Yeah.... we're serious. I have an accord and an Element. I had a Range Rover. I want a modded festiva more than ANY car. More than your sweet mustang even. More than my lifelong dream car (which I will have) a 67-68 Cougar. Festiva is IT.

Yeah most of us here are rabid like that. With a BP 1.8 dohc mazda motor from an Escort GT they can do 0-60 like a fox body (about 6 seconds) BUT 35-40 mpg. When you factor in the non interference 250,000 mile lifespan of the BP it's a no brainer. Then factor in the functional interior room and the looks, yes the looks, it's way past a no brainer. It's the only choice. Festiva FTW.
