Greg you know you can always ditch it in to my car, that way there'd always be a BP with AC on the road!

grocery getter allmost had a 11 sec pass on a stock motor and trans, just a turbo kit, clutch, and a gtr ecu... IF he had gone and got a diff that wouldnt blow up, and a bit more traction, he would have gotten his 11 sec pass... he trapped 116mph in the 1/4, thats 11 sec speed...

I can honestly say from experience that wheelie bars are not necessary until you are really running deep into the 10s or 9s. I had a set on a 600whp vw gti and the results were marginal. Keep in mind that this was 7 years ago.
A stiff adjustable rear shock and high springrate did wonders in my festiva....I mean come on.....we re talking 250whp 2000 pound cars here. Not 8 or 9 sec pro fwd 1000whp cars.
The wheelie bars were good for shock value though!!! The domestic guys just couldnt figure out the physics.

i dont think they should be called wheelie bars on a FWD car... maybe Weight transfer arm or something hahaha

The idea came from muscle cars, where they are called Wheelie Bars.
When put on FWD cars, they are called Traction Bars.

If Greg had a set on his car, he could keep the AC, and drop into the hi 11"s
'course the extra traction might eat tranny's!
All this talk about whether a traction bar is needed or not---has anyone had one on a built Festiva to see if it makes a difference?
It is physics that a traction bar WILL make a difference. In effect it is like adding extra length to the car with more WEIGHT FORWARD, with out adding weight to the vehicle. It will give more grip with the added downforce on the front wheels. Thats why they are called.... "Traction Bars".

traction bars and wheelie bars are different. like i said,a high spring rate and stiff shocks on the back is plenty to keep the front end planted.

haha yes i know what wheelie bars are lol thanks for the clarification. i did NOT know that they were called traction bars on FWD cars because everyone has been referring to them as wheelie bars in this thread.

i see how these could help weight transfer but why not just put some really tall and stiff springs in rear so the car has a lil rake to it as well?

i sure as heck dont feel like bringing a "wheelie/traction bar" to the track and put that on every time... to much work... and it would look stupid imo, those things belong on 8 or 9 sec civics, NOT on 11sec festivas.... there is other ways to get traction.... and like it has been said 10 times above my post, stiff springs in the rear do JUST FINE.... the car is so lite weight that if you put a stiff spring in the back, when you launch it wont compress very much cause there is no weight to compress it lol... my car, even tho its was only running 15.8 in the 1/4 had no problems on the launch, cause i have stiff springs in the back....

start this vid at 1:18 and watch how much "squat" my car has....
some 1/4 mile passes in my festiva... at the time it had:95 escort gt motor swap323 gt trans swapgtx intake manifold99% stock motor just a short ram intake.....

then watch this vid, still very little "squat" and thats a VERY quick festiva.... if he had stuck a bit higher spring rate in the back it would have been even better...
                  ford festiva with a bp-t and a g25mr running 12 sec 1/4 mile passes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...and why the Festivas are NOT going any faster than high 11-12 seconds
argue all you want...in your subconscienous....you know i'm right :p

besides they have "quick connect" models , takes 30 seconds to put on/take off

so..what you are saying is that 11-12 seconds is the top end for a Festiva? Cant go any faster? Phhhfffttt!!!! is all I gotta say!

what he is saying is that a 11-12 second DOESNT need wheelie bars. more than likely wouldnt even benefit from them,as the tranny will break or itll spin either way cause of the limitations on tire size and tranny use.

if i wasnt saving my money for another car project i would consider building a festiva to break into the 10's so people can stop arguing about 11 sec festivas hahahaha j/k i have no real interest in drag racing. Pikes peak on the other hand..... muahahaha

The cars arent going 11's because no one is willing to buy a diff and build a motor. These cars go for 200 dollars on craigslist......putting 3000 dollars into drivetrain just seems silly!!
