  • Ran a 10.3!

On the 1/8th. This needs to be fixed I would assume I should be running low 9s but I cannot hook for crap. Any launching tips? Tire tips? I have 175/45/14 street tires at the moment on Aspire suspension.

I have KYB and coilovers ready to put on, any suggestions on spring rates for speed? I don't care much for ride quality.

As soon as I saw the title I knew it would be the 1/8th :p. Learn to pre load the car when you launch a little tire spin is better then bogging, took me a long time to learn that. I launch at 4k with my b6t, the traction problems comes when I get into the boost.

If you don't care about ride quality get a really stiff rear, like 400lb. When I put the ebay coilovers on I gained a whole second in the 1/4. Bearly any spin and the car went straight.

Are you talking about pre loading? Like on an auto car hold the footbrake and give it some gas so it stands up.

It works really well on stock suspension. I can't do it anymore cause my parking brake is worn and my suspension is really hard

Not just the preloading aspect but just its whole butt in the air for track day. Getting out of the hole is bad for our cars but the 1-2 shift on video is just as ugly for some

Yeah...what is up with the way a Festiva shifts from 1-2? They all shift ... s..l..o..w ..... from 1-2. Even the guys who know how to shift, if you watch any Festiva drags, that 1-2 shift sux. All the others gear shifts are fine.

A couple of tips for you:

                1. Weight loss & distribution
                a. Get lighter wheels. Cheap options: http://www.miata.net/faq/wheel_weights.html
                b. Leave the following items at home: spare tire, passenger seat, back seat, jack/tools, junk, clutter, etc.
                c. Balance the wheel weights (particularly the front) by playing with suspension heights and parts distribution.
                d. Jack up the rear of the car with your coil-overs to get more weight over the front tires.
                e. Even driver weight can have an impact, so that's something to consider.
                f. Don't run with a full tank of gas - 6 pounds per gallon can add up, especially in the back of the car.

                2. Chassis tension and drive-train delivery
                a. Fill your motor and transmission mounts with window weld. http://importnut.net/motormount.htm
                b. Ensure that your clutch is in excellent condition and is capable to handle the power.
                c. If you can afford it, invest in an LSD insert or full differential.
                d. Return the KYB's if they're NIB and look into a stiffer option. For springs, you'll want a minimum of 150lbs 8" in the back.
                e. Consider longitudinal bracing - traction bars, chassis bracing, etc. Strut/sway bars won't do anything really to help.
                f. Ensure your bushings, tie rods, and control arms are in good working order.

                2. Grip and launch engagement
                a. Make sure you have a tachometer in the car and an accurate speedometer.
                b. Get a wheel alignment specifically designed for FWD drag racing... ask speed shops.
                c. Wider tires are a good idea - 185/60-14 or 195/45-14 would be nice.
                d. Experiment with tire pressures - raising the rear (lower rolling resistance) and lowering the front (widens contact patch) notably.
                e. If you can afford it, opt to get slicks for your runs instead of street rubber.
                f. Ensure your wheel bearings are up to snuff and that your brakes aren't dragging at all.

In that case, you should read the following:

Discuss making performance enhancements to the OEM-spec engine in your Festiva or Aspire.

Ensure you have the Protege transmission (optional would be a Pony final drive differential) at all costs. Not only is the SOHC Protege Clutch much beefier than the 323/MX-3 model, but the difference in final drive gearing will make such a huge difference in your car's performance. The 323 differential is great for masking low performance with fauxceleration and eating tires day and night.
