  • The 60 foot question!!

I've been going over a number of the drag racing posts since my trip to the track the other day. It seems that the 60 ft time gets a lot of mention. I was running between 2.47 and 2.68 seconds.

What would be considered a really good 60 foot time for a swapped Festiva given that traction seems to be the biggest issue regardless of the kind of swap.

    Thanks,
    Ian

For every 10th of a second you shave off your 60ft time, you shave 2-10th off your final ET

      1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
      1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

My best has been 2.25 on dry rotted 185s. Suspension has a lot to do with the 60ft.

I had a friend with me taking a couple of pics. My shocks and struts are at the end of the lives so I noticed a lot of rear "squat" on take off from the lights. I'm replacing them later this week and I may try and get down to the track again on Friday and see if it makes a difference. Also getting the front end alignment double checked.

            I'll keep you posted!

Try getting some stiffer springs in the back. The squatting really kills traction.

Try a solid tube inside rear springs to limit downward travel, with rubber bumpstomps to take out the bang.

I wrote up this guide for another member here... and it was completely ignored. Hopefully it will be of some use to you, Ian:

Show your racing trophies, 1/4 mile time slips and discuss other sanctioned racing sessions (includes auto-x, drag racing, 1/8 mile slips, etc)

With such a light car, once you are turbo and running optimum components, low 2.X's should be a cakewalk. A lot of it is driver experience and car comfort too... nobody is a perfect drag racer. I've seen drag school training courses cut half a second off a quarter mile in a single weekend with the same car.

That information comes from three sources. The first are my friends who drag race.

#2: There are a ton of Turbo Dodge guys running 12s FWD here. There are the best resource in my opinion for front wheel drive launch and drag tips: http://www.thedodgegarage.com/traction.html

#3: I also like reading on the Sentra/Bluebird forums... their SR20 swaps are frequently high-powered front wheel drive cars as well: http://www.se-r.net/car_info/fwd_launch_tips.html
