  • some BP have oil coolers...

Just saying - I did not know that. Looks like 93 and later escort GTs had stock oil coolers. Might be useful for some racing applications.

    Will try putting a cooler from a 93 e-gt to a 91 engine tomorrow.

I believe all the FWD BP's from 90-94 had them, but the 95 and later ones and the miata ones did not.

Somehow I have two used BP engines (pre-93 crank style) without oil coolers and with short oil filter shaft.

While we are on the subject of sweet stock stuff... Did not they have stock exhaust headers on some escorts? maybe 95?

All I know we have found two rusted headers in junk yards - one next to a protege, another next to a escort. I do not think these were aftermarket accessories...

seems like the nut is about 26 mm, also the one in the junk yard was really loose - seems like it is mostly held by the oil filter pushing it against the engine

zoom zoom leave it on, your heater core lines run through it, unless you are going aftermarket larger oil cooler.

I've run my bp for 40k miles without the oil cooler. No problems. I used a big adjustable wrench to get the nut off. Then I threaded the stock b3 one (short) into it. It helps clear the intermediate shaft for the g series transmission.

Another tip: if you have a Ford non-MBSP BP, and can't find a DOHC Protege to source one the B8ME has an MBSP that bolts on to the EGT motor. It doesn't clear ARP mainstuds though.
