Travis keeps all his wheels on the track, drives like a man on a mission. Turn 7 a fast mustang puts some red paint on the front fender Travis pulls in and the fender pulls out. Jess is ready to show us he has the stones. Off he goes, after reminding us for hours that he was only black-flagless member we cheered him on. About an hour in the car starts cutting out around 3/4 of a tank when heavy into or out of corner. Top-off, swap drivers and its my turn to punish my kidneys and try to break something. This is the race for all the regions' champions to ride to prove their stuff. There are many amazingly fast $500 cars out there. We need about 20 more ponies and some of those suction cups that the E30 must have using to corner better. We had a great time and now have a list of things to do. I would enjoy hearing some suggestions from the Festiva experts herein.

Here is my beginning list:
Drop gas tank to clean and seal. Replace three or four injectors and the fuel filter. I heard of a mod that replaces the VAF with a less restrictive unit. Change over to heated wire for the airflow detection. Maybe advance the timing a few more degrees with octane booster or race gas. After that I no other ideas to squeeze a little more out of the SOHC.
Suspension? I had the wheels dialed in at my local race shop. 2.1 camber on the fronts with a 1 degree toe-in, and 1.1-1.2 degree camber in the rear with a slight toe-in as well. None of this part was my idea I just asked for it to road race setup by the track guy who does this for a living. I think maybe my rear 175 lb springs are too light for the roll caged stiffness in the rear. Since we lowered it by cutting two inches out of the KYBs and the 195/60R14s could it need more spring weight? If the only tool you have is a hammer, then every job looks like a nail.

Yeah, I splurged a bit on the tires and wheels. In retrospect, I might have that extra cash into something else. But, they do look cool. I got wrapped up in the unsprung weight, rotational mass and said, "Hell yeah!"If the only tool you have is a hammer, then every job looks like a nail.
