  • My first Autocross season (Updated after races)

    My second outing today.

I did much better, the track was VERY fast, so many of the serious big boys (Vettes got FTD today) got me by 6-10 seconds on a 45-60 second track..

Here is a list of those running close to my times, the guys I beat, and two just ahead of me.

Still NOT on my slicks, so July 8th, expect me to do much better (hope, hope)

You guys should have seen the bad*$# Vette that got the Fastest time of the day today, it was just SICK about 6-7 hundred horses... wicked fast.

I will have a video of one of my better runs and one of the Vette from on the track... soon. Give me time to upload.

in the meantime, let me bask in the cars I beat... LOL..

I am still on those dry hard street tires... I think my next posting (July 8th) will have different results!!

Links to the videos coming up. The vette is just insanely fast, he had fastet time of the day, by far. To compare, I ran a a fair time of 51.359 (with a 180lb passenger) and this guy was in the low 40's.... OOOOO!!!!

Good stuff!! Keep it up!! Remember slow in, fast out! Your driving will continue to improve with more practice but I can already see a vast improvement. -Kyle

Cool, thanks. I can feel a difference, but it is still hard to "forget" what I "knew" about "fast driving" LOL..

Autocross is a different animal altogether..... I still have LOTS to learn about how to get this little car around the track. Kyle, your success spurs me on, and reminds me that I can keep up with the big boys if I keep trying, and get more and more seat time.

I know I could get much better times with even my current tires.. I am almost tempted to keep them on till I can't get any better WITH them... but.......... NAH!!! The slicks will be on for the next race!

Have you thought about some stiffer springs? Your car seems to have alot of body roll.

A lot of body roll? I don't agree, for a street daily driver, I feel my car handles amazingly flat for what I am doing to it, the picture that is front on, with the most "body roll" is almost flat out in second, that is the MOST body roll I can get out of the festy, there is a little less with a passenger. But that turn is pretty tight, and very fast... I was actually quite pleased with the minimal body roll this weekend.

The FMS springs and KYB's seem to be doing a fair job. I have seen photos of stock festys doing the Autox thing, and there is no comparison..

I will pay attention to it, but even with the pictures it seems as if there isn't much roll at all.. I do need new sway bar bushings, maybe that will help.

If I turn it into a full on auto x only, I might do a coil over with a stiffer spring, but for what I have, I am pretty happy with the roll.

^^I agree...from the pics of your car and pics of other cars ...I think it looked great...handled the corners as well as the other cars there. I saw one that the rear tire was off the ground on.....even the vette had roll to it.
