I had been looking for a Festiva for about a year. Not finding any in the area worth considering, most were ready for boneyard or rebuild. Not wanting to take any more projects on, I put it on a secondary burner, still keeping an eye out for one. Well time passed, lost my job in april this year. Things were starting to get rough after a couple months, when my very good friend of many years, Mark, offered me a position as Light Tech/ roadie in his band.
Well, it wasnt a lot of money, but anything is better than nothing and on top of it, I get to hear some great music and hang with good people.
Well, looking forward to the first gig, I jump in my 1990 F-150, the only vehicle I own, and head out with glad heart to the gig which is like 40+ miles away. About 3 miles from the place, I hear this grrwwrrr? like sound and then then THUMP! Engine revs up like I threw it in neutral. Push clutch and it drops to floor and stays there. Ugghh! Make it to shoulder across 3 lanes of traffic. I pull pedal up and it pumps up, shifts gears, but nothing to the rear wheels. Its dead. Tranny gone. So, $200 on charge card, and i'm back home. I called Mark and told him I was sorry, that I broke down and he says no problem, he will pay me for the night anyway!!!! I also call Gino, another good friend who was to meet me there, tell him the story, and CHECK THIS!!!
Gino lives by where the gig was, so he offers to drive the 40+ to pick me up, 40+ to the gig, 40+ to take me home, and then 40+ so he can get back home!!! Amazing guy!!!! Amazing Friends!!!! Sheesh! So I am able to make the saturday night gig and Mark pays me for both nights! Sheesh x2!
Now here is where the Festiva I now own comes in. I go to craigslist friday night, the night of the breakdown, and there is a FESTIVA for sale!!!
A couple actually, one too high $$$$, one needs a lot of work, and both had been on CL for a while. BUT, this one was new on CL and had been posted 12 minutes before I got on CL. I call right then, 10:00pm, and get hold of the guy. He is selling it on consignment thru a small repair shop close by. He said they're open saturday morning, so I told him i'd be there first thing. Well price was $800, and I didnt have $800...yet! I had some $$$ in an IRA, got hold of my agent and got the ball rolling on the money, but 2-3 days before I got it.
I pulled what I had, and again, Gino comes thru and gives me $100! I have $200 for total of $300. Not enough. So I go early and talk to the people at repair shop. As soon as I pull into lot and see the Festy, I knew it was the one! I tell my story(shorter than this version) drive the car, and ask if he'll hold it until my check comes mon or tues and he says yes! Well, I just had to get this Festiva, period! Nice, hardly any rust, drove great. And I needed wheels fast.
I thought about it and the money wasnt going to be on time with the bank wanting to hold it 1-2 days, so I call in a few favors and get up to $700. $100 short. I call him monday morn and tell him I really want this car and all i've got is $700. He says good enough and to come on down and get it!!!
I was there in the wink of an eye!
And now without further ado, some pics:

The car had new fuel pump, new wheel bearings, and new battery. Drove it to station, passed inspection, drove to license bureau, and had plates the same day, been driving it daily since.
I now have a job, am still the light tech/roadie and now videographer also for ARBOGAST, the band and my FESTIVA ROCKS!
My F150 will be on the road next week, too. More photos to follow and my photo album has pics of of it and stuff aquired for it since.
Hope ya all enjoy the story at least, it was a heck of a ride!
And thanks to all the great folk at "THE ST. LOUIS MEET", I now have some really fantastic pics of " The Beast".

He rebuilt the head and drove the crap out of it, became pizza delivery car and his play car.. Long story short he sold that car and after about a year decided it was a bad idea and bought another one (my current car) but this one he wanted to be a turbo'd car.. So we talked about what it would need to do the swap and figured well if we can find everything then we will attempt it... Late one night i look on craigslist find a xr2 mint with 100k miles and its in st. augustine. So we go get it.. We take the motor out of this donor car and swap it into his car... Then it sits for almost a year he ran out of money on the project and he was just short of it being 100% road worthy needed tach and boost gauge and etc.. Also he couldn't afford to insure the car and get the tags and everything... So he tells me i can buy it from him, so i do... I have done alot to this car and we have been through thick and thin... I built this car for him but in the back of my mind new i would own it one day which is crazy to think about...

After a year and a half since starting the project she is coming along quite nicely I have repainted the car sonic blue, put some 15's on it, and it has the b6t swap... This car could be a daily driver in my mind, i put about 200 miles on the car and the motor before taking it on a 1200 mile trip to FM3.. It was awesome times, and even better knowing that i could do something like that with something i built basically from nothing... The week i got back i had 12 inch tires and ran out at the track and put down a 13.9 the car runs like a scalded dog... It surprises me every time i drive it, and gets alot of looks when its pulling around town LOL... Biggest thing about this car is it has been transformed into something it never looked like it could have been... The pics dont do the car justice but still look good...

    Before anything

    Paint

    After

Still needed some work but heck not bad for my first one..

    Engine

    Before I left for FM3

    Wheels, tint, and Buff

    One for the road...

    Thanks for looking, Good luck....

I wrote down the name of the shop and asked the owner about them, and he said that they were a customer's cars and that they weren't for sale. Fast forward about six months and they were still there so we talked to the shop owner again, and he said the guy who owned the festivas owed money on repair work on them and some other vehicles and wasn't paying it. Then he said he would try to get a lien on them so he could sell them, the owner of the cars said that if the festivas didn't sell that he would scrap them. About a month later the shop owner got a lien on them and we bought the cars, we also bought a 3rd one at the same time as a parts car that was owned by the shop owners neighbor or something.

Well anyway here's the 3 we bought:
      89' Parts car-

      90' L+

      93' L-

festivaWES and I hauled all the cars to my house on the same day that he got Old Red from me. Big thanks to him for helping me out there!

Wes leaving with Old Red (my first festiva)

Here's a shot of when I owned 5 festivas for a shot period of time

Back to the story of the car, originally I had no plans to fix up the 93' I had planned on selling it or trading it for parts to build the 90' L+, but then about halfway through the summer my parents were getting kinda mad at me for not having a running car to drive yet, and thats when work stopped on the L+. My parents gave me the 89' but I couldn't drive it yet since my mom needed something to drive to work, so one day I asked my dad if it would be okay if I let them keep the 89' and I fix up the 93' and he agreed to it. So thats the story of how I started building this car.

A bunch of work has gone into this car, so I'll make a list of all the mods at the end of my entry, and put up some pics of the highlights of the build.

Wes installed a aspire cyl. head w/80k on it

Aspire swap and honda VX's courtesy of festivaWES

New water and oil pump, thanks again to Wes for helping me out there.

Here is how it sits now.

Latest addition to the car is the FMS strut brace

I have learned alot from building this car, a big thanks goes out to festivaWES for everything that he helped out with! Aspire swap, cylinder head install, honda VX wheels, water and oil pump install, etc..

And thanks to other forum members whose parts were put to use on this car, the trans on the car is from Marcus's (freshtivas) blue B6 car before he did the ATX to MTX swap, and the strut brace I bought from Kyle (silv3rbull3t)

Here's the list of everything that I can think of thats been done to the car so far:
-Completely stripped the interior and replaced it with a L+ interior
-Fixed some rust problems in front of both rear wheels
      -Added a spoiler
      -Custom grill
      -painted bumpers
      -Tach cluster
      -Rear defrost
      -Aspire swap
      -Honda VX wheels
      -New struts/shocks
      -New LCA's
      -New sway bar bushings
      -Aspire front sway bar
-Lowered w/cut stock springs 2 1/2 coils front, 2 coils back
      -Aspire cylinder head
      -New water pump
      -New oil pump
      -Aspire intake tube
      -MTX to ATX swap

Thats my entry, hope you like it If you want to see the whole build from the start to now most of it is covered in this thread- http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=22582
