Your right about the tire wheel combo, they looked like they should be on a Sears garden tractor. I could just see these tires flying apart going down an Interstate headed for Madness X, but it all went well, heck most of the way down I would look in the mirror to see if it was still attached, lol. you can't find 12" tires Out here in small town USA. The last new set that I had came from a deal I made with Larry Hampton down in Edmond OK. We bought out Larry's entire stock of Festiva cars and parts, Hmm I don't think I ever made a post about that deal or the trip, i'll get on that soon. Your right about good tires, it makes a big Difference, Maxx runs around on 15' OZ rims w/ 185 60 15 tires, Cooper S5. Glad you didn't get hurt in the crash, I lost a nice Red 92 Sport several years back, a young girl ran a yield sign and my son hit her in the right front fender, it was bad enough that it turned into a parts car and my Son was not injured. Say you used that bike for everything, glad to hear you bought another Festiva and that you found this Great site, Welcome aboard.

Who said I didn't get hurt? I knocked the windshield out with my head. My chest bent the steering column to a near vertical position and my right knee destroyed the cubby hole below the radio. As if the immediate damage wasn't bad enough the first thing I noticed when I got out of the car was a puddle of red ATF from the broken transmission. Miraculously I didn't break any bones and foolishly refused treatment at the scene. I just wanted to get home. Music and a shot of whiskey would temporarily put me out of my mysery for the time being at least. I heard too many horror stories about people waiting hours for treatment in the waiting room. I have since learned that when you arrive by ambulance you go right in. Of course the 3 mile ride to the hospital will cost you around $1,200 today. $1,200 could be me six more Festivas....LOL. I managed to puncture my chin with a tooth. Puncture as in making a hole clear through it. It finally scabbed up and stopped bleeding in the morning. After spending the night trying unsuccessfully trying to sleep I called a cab for a ride to the Emergency Room. An EKG and a cat scan revealed nothing broken and nothing wrong, at least not from the accident. I did learn about spots in my right lung probably from years of paint + bodywork and also of this little thing called heart disease....LOL. Besides those two minor problems they pronounced me healthy. As I am not one to worry about my health I did what comes naturally. Nothing. I eat well and get decent exercise and I don't worry. I believe our bodys can heal themselves with good food and a positive attitude and a little faith from the lord above. This all happened 7 years ago and I'm still breathing. Not to mention the fact we all gotta go sooner or later. The best part about the hospital visit was the cute little nurse that insisted on breaking the scab on my chin just to get a better look at my injury. Of course as I told her, there was nothing they could do for it. So here I go again having to keep pressure on it to keep from bleeding to death. Now that the '91 back-up car is running well the B6T swap has slowed down to a trickle. The B6ME in the '91 really is a good engine. I put new pads, shoes and all new hardware kits on it last week. All genuine Ford parts bought off eBay, dirt cheap. Next pay day I am going to buy all new front ends for both cars. Moog parts only for me. When you add the figures up, buying cheap, no name parts doesn't make any sense to me. For the first time I have a Festiva with a decent engine it also happens to be the one with the worst steering. It just has the loose, goes where it wants to, feel. Unacceptable to me. When I did the engine swap I did notice every boot (ball joints, tie rods) torn. I also took the opportunity to put the Capri wheels and tires on it. They are running 185x14x70's. I had to run 1/4" spacers in the back and also borrow the Aspire rear struts from the '93 for clearance. This was also a good time to convert to wheels studs. Running spacers with lug bolts is no fun. Meanwhile the '93 sits inside out of the elements with the B3 out and the fenders, doors and hood off. One by one being straightened for painting. The B6T engine sits on the stand kept clean with a heavy trash bag wrapped over it while it waits for a gasket set and the dashboard sits here in my kitchen while I finish putting the Capri cluster in it. You didn't think I would want to drive a turbo car without a tach and with an 85 mph speedometer, did you? When I make it back east I plan on taking the south route out. Hopefully say hello to some guys in Missouri and Illinois then head back a different route....such as Iowa. Although if I go in the fall, common sense would dictate I take the northern route out and the southern route back. Common sense also says to wear your selt belts when you're driving.....LOL.Last edited by Rick the Quick; 05-11-2017, 03:59 AM.'88 Festiva LX 5 speed, A/C, Carb, restored $$$ body paint, badly wrecked @ 200k.
