I'm hurt that you would think such a thing!

It was only in search of verifiable data that I suggest such an experiment!

Uh, that and having spoiler on my car would look cool!

You wouldn't happen to have a black one, would you?

I have noticed that the spoiler does seem to cut down on dirt. And I get no salt on my car in the winter.

But the fact you don't drive it in the winter is also a mitigating factor!
        Wouldn't you say?

The BIGGEST advantage to a Festiva vs. a new car is I paid CASH for it, no note and about $19 a month for insurance. Beat that with a Yaris, Prius, Fit whatever............. Oh yeah, a guy I work with has a Prius, since our commute is not city driving I get better mileage than he does and I paid over $25,000 less for my beloved Festy!

1993 Aqua Festiva and it was cheap!
1994 Brake Swap and it was cheap!
1969 Ford F100 Big Block Ranger and it was free! (coming 2/12)

Yeah, I wonder if those who "buy" (finance) them calculate how much those hybrids are really costing them.
Can't see compared to a Festiva how you could possibly get ahead, unless your driving a 10MPG vehicle then switch to a hybrid (bet that happens a lot! ).
You also make a good point, insurance on a 20-30K car, especially financed, is way above what my Fester is.
I will agree with Ian that they are hard to compare in other terms, but if your buying because of MPG then the new MPG champions aren't financially any more efficient than our 14 yr old festivas!

Do you point that out, often?
I found a lower speed path to work (40 miles one-way) and my MPG is now running 52-53 very consistently.
Not bad for a car I've had 13 yrs and put almost 200K miles on.
Lets see a Prius do that in 200K miles without a 3-$5K battery back replacement.
Hel ..... uhmmmm... Heck, I only paid $4300 for it in 1994!
Wonder if I got my moneys worth yet!

Don't forget to add in the savings from being able to work on them yourself VS taking them to a shop. Id be lost working on a newer vehicle. Big cost savings down the road !

Agreed, but the downside is parts are getting scarce.
Have you tried to get and air filter from Walmart?
I know they can be had at any Mcparts place, but when the big retailers stop carry regular maintenance items they have judged your car to be obsolete.
Fortunately, our oil filters are used by a lot of Honda's so we should be safe in that regard for a while.
But in general even the OEM can legally now not carry replacement parts (they only had to keep parts available for 10 yrs after the model run).
Fortunately for us a fair number of Festivas were sold so we should be OK parts wise for a while.
