  • Festiva changes, year by year

I haven't found a comprehensive writeup by the more knowledgeable board members on what changes were made from year to year. I'll get it started, and make changes here as info comes in. NOTE: there is a posting below by stefan which gives two charts for all the equipment packages, so what I am posting here is basically a quick-reference guide.

    TRIM
    Model.......Year
L..............88-93.....A/C only available in 1988 from factory; can be dealer-installed though
    L+............89-90....90 L+ has a tachometer
LX............88-90.....LX trim package has a tachometer
GL............91-93.....body-color bumpers; color-keyed wheels in 1991 only; no tachometer for GLs
GL............92-93.....alloy wheels; Sport package available, w/sport trim, spoiler, white powdercoated wheels

    DRIVETRAIN
1988......all carbed; manual trans is 4-speed for L, 5-speed for LX
1989......manuals are carbed, automatic L+/LX are EFI; all Ls are manual; L+ manual is 4-speed
1990+....all EFI; manual trans becomes 5-speed for all trim levels

    Corrections and additions are welcome.
90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods

what yr lx was yours? i have an 88lx 5 speed. my gl's dont have tach's either.

i wish they had kept the lx features and interior. to me it seemed better quality. people here raid the lx models to add features to their l and gl's.

That good info, I'd like to see it as a sticky and maybe add some other things to it.
Don't think I've ever seen it organized all in one place before.
Sort of like a quick reference page!
Yeah, agreed probably best in the Gen Discussion forum.

Now I am confused, I thought 1988 do come with 5 speed manual too? I used to be owned once before with Festiva 1988 LX which it was originally 5 speed manual.

Ahh now it make sense... 1988 LX only come with 5 speed manual and 1988 L come with 4 speed manual.

After 1990 tach weren't available in Festiva's. You could swap one out though it is a plug and play item.

I think it was an 88 or 89, but honestly I don't remember. I had it for two years, from around 1992-93. I wasn't into these cars so much back then.

Thanks stefan! Those two links are great!

Dealer-installed; see stefan's two tables. I made the correction for this in the first post though.
