Why everyone should check their ignition timing.

I just adjusted the timing on my new festy today. Man, it feels like a new engine. So much more pep now.. I was able to chirp the tires crusing at 4000 rpms in first, never done that before in one of these. I have it adjusted to 11-12* btdc, no pinging on 87 octane. Have you guys noticed a similar increase after adjusting the timing?
