I am about 6-7 hours in so far. I have the interior gutted down to the steering wheel. I have the engine compartment gutted down to just the engine. The wire harness is completely out. Next will be the engine then the rest of the exterior and other misc small stuff. I am doing a complete restore of this thing. It will be better than new as I will be paying attention to every detail that I think Kia should have when they built it. From Bumper to Bumper, pavement to the top of the extended antenna, no part will have not been touched by me in one way or another.
I will be doing any necessary mods to fit the wheels I want, body panels, engine, suspension, brakes, complete custom interior with the excepton of the guage cluster (I kind of like the Festiva stuff here), stereo system, headlights, and probably the hardest of all will be making the wiring be as stealth as possible in the engine bay. Paint will probably be Electric Blue with white accents, white wheels, blue white and grey interior in vinyl, paint, and other types of material. I will not be going hogwild on the exterior customizing because I like the way the car looks stock with nice paint and a set of clean wheels. Probably just side skirts, simple hoodscoop, custom stock wing, and maybe some other shaving, fringing type stuff. Oh yeah the alarm will be fully functional (Door pops, motorized interior panels, locks , trunk release, strobe lights, and my personal favorite; the Hadley air horn system straight from a Mack Truck) will all be controlled by the Alarm System.
I will start posting detailed pics of any mods as I do them. This process will take a while. I am guessing 1-2 years. Maybe less if I can get my wife on board with me and the bank.
I am budgeting about 10G's from initial purchase to final screw turn. This way I will have a brand new car built the way I like on a platform I like for only 10 large. that is cheap. Think of it in terms of buying a Civic. You pay what, 16-17k and you get what everyone and their brother has. My car will only ever be mine new for less than any car on the market currently. I have been stockpiling parts for a little while now and am about 2300 in so far.
