  • Festiva Vs. Old F150

Was driving up this one hill by my house which is sort of a winedy hill. And it was raining, so the road was slippery. Anyways, I was just coming up around the first corner near the bottom, when this guy in his F150 skids across two lanes into the driver side of my car. So drive off to the side of the road, and he does too. He walks over to check if I'm OK and he goes back to his truck to get the papers. I told him to turn around and park his truck close to mine. He gets in, and drives off. Never seen again.

So now I have to go down to the police station tomorrow morning and get a police report and hopefully won't have to pay an insurance deductible to repair the car. The good news though, the front left panel was already dented, so maybe now I can say that it was part of the accident

I keep a disposable camera in the car. It has flash and 400 ASA film.

Next one who hits my car gets pics taken immediately including license plates, before I do anything else. In the past I've had one person give me false info and another had no license. Those accidents were being hit from behind while stopped in my '86 K-car. The rear bumper mounts took most of the damage, which was largely invisible.

Festivas are too small to be hit like that and survive well. Not to mention the soft tissues of my neck.

      Four door K = 2400 plus pounds
      vs.
      Festiva = under 1800 pounds.

I hate to tell you this, but not only will you have to pay the deductible (will come out of settlement) they will almost certainly total your car, you will probably have to fix it youself.

Keep you eye out for the $*#(@ that took off, he was probably drunk... what a loser.. good luck, I hope you find him.

Yup, first thing you do is use a camera, any camera to get a picture of the other guys plate. Short of that, write it down on something. After that, let the negotiations begin!

Yeah I should've taken a picture of the plate or something, but the guy seemed honest(he had gotten out of his car and came over to talk to me) and so I had really no reason to assume he was going to drive off.

I checked with a local autobody shop today, and the guy estimated it at over $2000 worth of damage. And ICBC(Insurance Corporation of British Columbia) said that there's a $750 Hit-and-run deductible.Luckily, there is a red festiva with a blown head gasket on craigslist selling for $350 which might be perfect for a parts car.

Edit: Took some new pictures today in daylight

Is your rear quarter still ok? Either way it sounds like a parts car is your best bet.

Yeah the rear quarter is pretty much untouched, other than some scratches just behind the door.

Looks like a door and a fender and you will be back in business. Sucks that the guy ran off. I hope that they catch up with them.

Even just the door. To be honest it actually looks pretty cool like this, because it's like a Destruction Derby car with the black steelies lol.

The only real thing wrong with the door is that it got bent downwards a bit so it doesn't close properly, and the window doesn't roll down all the way. Other than that it's fine.

Well I have an appointment with the insurance place tomorrow to get an estimate, but I figure if I go through the insurance place at all I'll end up paying $750 MINIMUM so I'll probably end up replacing it myself.

Nah, let them total it, take the settlement, buy the car back for next to nothing and fix it yourself.. Put the rest of the cash in your pocket and smile.

I went down and looked at the Festiva that was for $350. The paint looks pretty close to mine. The door on mine was repainted so it didn't match anyways. It's an 89 Carb'ed 4-speed with 221,000km's on it.

I'm going to buy it tomorrow. Once I get anything I need from it I'll be parting it out in the For Sale/Wanted forums.
