i work at mazda and about 50% of the parts we get in come in ford boxes with a mazda part number slaped on top.....go look at the calipers of a mazda 3..they say FoMoCo on em. We call the new miata the ford miata. All of us have noticed some decline in quality the more ford gets their fingers in there. But agreed it is hit and miss.

I'm fb71 there as well.
read some of threads about bone stock 150k mile sixes having turbos slapped on them cranked up to 20psi with no failures, other than an occasional head gasket.
I have a 69 Falcon Futura Sports Coupe with a 200 straight six that I bought last August. It had literally sat, unstarted, for 30 years (parked in 1976). I drained what was once fuel out of the tank, changed the filter, filled with 5 gallons of fresh fuel, put a battery in it, cranked for about 45 seconds, and she fired right up and settled into an idle. After I got it home, I changed the oil, plugs, wires and points, and replaced the u-joints and tires. I put historic tags on it, and have been driving it daily since the end of July (when my '04 Mustang was totalled by a careless driver). I literally have done nothing else to the car. It starts right up, gets 25 mpg, doesn't use any oil, shifts perfectly, but steers and stops like a 39 year-old car.

try this...
Festiva is a Mazda design, parts, EVERYTHING! Kia had NO INPUT on the look or design process at all. They just assembled it. However, the ASPIRE is VERY inspired by kia. Mazda didn't want to redesign a festiva that had airbags, so they let Kia do it.
A fun test to do:
1. go to the junk yard
2. Sit in a 86-90 Mazda 323
3. Notice how VERY SIMILAR it is to your festiva!
4. Sit in any year kia sephia
5. Notice how VERY similar the interior is to an aspire
6. Pop the hood on all above mentioned vehicles, and notice how VERY SIMILAR they all are!

The DB is a saloon/sedan vs the Aspire/Avella hatch but it's essentially the same car - the interior of the Aspire is much cheaper looking from what I've observed though.
Tell it like it is...not how it should be
