  • Rebuild, replace, or dispose?

I have a stock 90 5-speed that died as a result of no compression.

I love my Festy, but I don't think I have enough time to give it the attention it deserves, since I think it needs a full rebuild.

So, do you think I should:
    1) just go ahead and rebuild the engine,
    2) try to put a rebuilt engine in it (and where can I find one, anyway?), or
    3) get rid of it (full sale or part it out?)?

I figured other people that love Festys would give the best advice.

Festiva Motorsport sells new Festiva engines. You could probably find a decent B3 or B6 in a junkyard. You can probably also find someone on here who would be happy to take it off your hands, especially if it happens to be an LX or L Plus.

Keep the car and swap in another engine... It's easily done in a weekend and even with an engine swap (going with a 1.6 from a 323), you'll still pull in 35+ MPG... It's hard to beat these days with gas prices as high as they are!

You can also use an engine out of a Aspire.

Start tearing the old engine apart and see how bad it is - maybe you just need a valve job or something.

Well, thanks to the suggestions, I did tear into it and found that it did need a valve job.

Now that it's starting, I need to tweak the timing and the idle speed.

What's the right way to do that? Timing, then idle speed, or idle speed, then timing?

idle speed, then timing. (may have to repeat if you timing was way off)

glad to hear its running again! how many miles are on it that it was loosing compression?
