Check out this heater I got off Craigslist!!
It's new, military surplus, made by Hunter.
They have been used since before Vietnam (similar to ones used since 1941!).. but I had never seen one.
It's multi-fuel, it will burn liquid or solid fuel. Just about anything. Jet fuel, diesel, heating oil, kerosene, even gasoline!. It uses a fuel vaporizer (passive) and requires no power whatsoever. If you remove the oil burner assembly, and stick in a grate (mine didn't come with the grate, but easy to make) it will burn coal, and even just plain old wood..
I have mine set up for diesel at the moment, but I will be setting it up for coal, as we can get as much as we want, off the railroad tracks by the river, and it fun to collect too!
The stove go for about $500 from Hunter, but this fellow bought them from a military surplus auction, they come with all the fuel lines, and regulator and burner and such, INCLUDING the stove pipe and draft top for the pipe, all packed in cosmoline in a wooded crate. He sold me my stove for $100!!! The adapter it comes with is set up for a normal US style Jerry can, but I adapted mine to a motorcycle gas can... since I have a few of those lying around.
It's not too cold out at the moment, only about 38, but it's about 70 in my garage!!! HA-HA!!
I wanted a normal wood burner, but when I saw this multi-fuel heater... I was hooked!! brand new, for $100, WITH stove pipe!! Uses about a half gallon of fuel an hour.. kinda expensive, but I don't need it too often, just when I am working on something out here.. and coal will be free!!!
Here is my set-up:
Here is a gallery of pics I made for the guy that sold me the unit, so he could show folks how to adapt the fuel kit from using US Jerry cans, to motorcycle gas cans, like the Moto-x guys use.
