  • Im a Newbie

Have posted several times....cann't believe I've waited so long to join.

Owner of a '92L 5spd (the Skate) purchased new for $4800. Spent the first six years parked at the airport (traveld alot) and driven every day since. The greatest car I've ever owned, driven, or serviced. Never paid a cent to have it worked on.

Recently I completed a full engine overhaul, not a nut or bolt left in place. Only the sterring rack left in the engine compartment...started to burn oil and milage dropped below 35mpg and the clutch was less than a month away from being shot.

Took 3 weeks at night....looks great and better yet....runs like 1992....the best thing to happen, I was able to lift & install the assemblted short block by myself. Not everything went perfect but recoverd well. Worst to happen......4 oil pan gaskets to get a dry pan.

Not much of a customizer.....seat covers only

Anyway...thanks to those who make the effort to support such a site.

Have lots of engine experience and seen just about every thing on my '92L

143k Miles......City-town and mountain terrain. I drive it hard.
This was the 2nd clutch and head set.......1st clutch at 63K (lay rubber every chance i get)......1st head set and timing at 92K summer '02....didn't need it at all...but wny not.

I will, in small tibids spill the ±'s....advise if i should create a new topic to attrack more comments/viewers.

The worst thing i did was not to take pictures or join FF.com prior to the overall. Would have pobalbly been the greatest expeience of my life......hard to run in from the garge and grab someone's attention to show them how wide the plasti gage was.

The best save i made was the rear main oil seal casting......As I pried it away, the saddle snapped all the way thru...ended up buiding a wooden fixture to clamp it with aircraft epoxy. When release....I drilled and tapped a No.0-56 thru the joint and ran a piece of thread rod thru. Plugged the holes...you would never know...500 miles since and dry.

Will add a little more later.
