Don't take anything you don't want stolen. In other words don't take your good tools. Also vise grips and a five gallon bucket.

I get a bit excessive when going junkyarding, because I go very often and never know what I'm going to find...so I have:
Craftsman 20"? plastic tool box with top storage
1/4" Craftsman metric rachet set(deep well)
3/4" Craftsman metric rachet set(deep and short well)
3/4" Duralast rachet and whole socket set (short well)
Craftsman screw drivers(bunch of different ones, including a precision screw driver)
Great neck breaker bar with 3/8s adaptor(found a broken one at a junkyard, turned it in for a new one)
            wire cutters
            plyers(found at a junkyard)
            hammer(found at a junkyard)
Ford Radio tools(found in a brand new Tribute at work)
Allen wrench set(found at a junkyard
            Leatherman tool
Another tool with an utility knife
            Hacksaw
            Pipe cutter
            A bungy cord or 5
            some torx bits
folding Mazda lug tool(found at the junkyard)
small needle nose vice grips(found at the junkyard)

I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Everyone loves to go to the junkyard with me because all of my tools are together, realtively clean, and I have lots of tools. lol

I also have a junk tool box with a bunch of different mediocre tools I've found over the years...lots of cheapo sockets, a 1/2" craftsman rachet I got turning in a broken one from the yard, a file, screw drivers, chisles, loose allens, etc.

A wallet!......A five gallon bucket is a greta tote for tools and parts
In the summer always get some bug spray....not repellant...but that hornet/wasp killing stuff.

                Things I do
Make a list...its easy to find all kind of treasure pieces and forget what you went for.
Check the trunk and glove box and under the seats....Never know what you find
Always pull any fuses, lamps or fusible links.
Take your time and look at everythang.....Have a blast

                  Yup, pretty much my kit. 6, 8, 10, 12, 14mm sockets, drive
                  3/8" ratchet with a 1/4" adpater
21mm socket on a 1/2" drive, in case I come across a steering wheel.
                  Linesman's pliers, side-cutters, knife, tiny $0.49 hacksaw.
And, perhaps just as important as the 10 and 12 mm sockets, a QuickPick screwdriver, with 6 different heads.

All this fits in a small NATO issue 5.56mm ammo box.

If I'm going big, then I'll bring in a full socket set, cheater pipe, etc.

                  Jim

what i have start doing is scout the junkyard for the parts first and if i found what i wanted i go back to the car and get the tools and it keeps mr from getting wore out carying the tools around.

i have a crappy walmart toolbox w/the same set of tools in it:

                      1/4" ratchet
                      3/8" ratchet
                      3" extensions for both
                      6" extension for 3/8" ratchet

                      1/4" sockets in: 8mm, 10mm, 12mm size
                      3/8" sockets in: 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, 21mm size
                      1/4" deep sockets in: 10mm, 12mm
                      3/8" deep sockets in: 12mm, 14mm, 17mm

                      A flip-type 6-in-1 screwdriver (philips + flathead all in 1)
a long-handled flat-head screwdriver for prying interior parts
pair of pliers w/wire cutters near pivot-point
standard swiss army knife for cutting hoses/wires

Depending on what I plan to pull, sometimes i'll bring a hammer, sometimes some hex wrenchs but I typically leave these out b/c of weight issues.

ALSO..a good tip is to bring a 14mm DEEP SOCKET and a long extension. I have a 6" extension that i can double up with a 3". I plug it into the 14mm deep socket & then slide the socket over the end of the ratchet to break pain-in-the-ass bolts loose. Works great!
