  • An Interesting Discovery???

Was on my way home from work yesterday, and spotted a little silver Festy for sale. Whipped around and went back to check it out. Nice little car 88, with yellow tach cluster, rear defog, rear wiper, no A/C. 106,000 miles. Anyway, found the car was locked, reached in pocket and pulled out the key to my 88 Stiva, and guess what. My key unlocked the door. Figured what the hell, put the key in the ignition and STARTED the car up. Sounded pretty sweet, but got me wondering how many other Festivas my key might fit. Counting mine, that is 3 so far. Anyone else tried anything like this? Just curious.

Thought about taking that one, and leaving mine. Think anyone would have noticed????

simon opened up my door with his winter beater key... then i used the key from pimptiva 1 and found the same thing... THEN my friend used his key from a 90 grand prix turbo to open my door. it only works on the driver's side though and none started the car....

That is cool (regardless of the obvious need of therapy for someone who is the position to do this)

The Mazda circa-80s engineered locks are probably all like that. Chances of a key working seems to improve when dealing with worn locks.

My Escort LX-E opens with a duplicate Festiva key ( only driver's side ), and an old house key ( all locks ).

Good car to have if you are prone to losing keysets.

Yep, both my Festiva keys open each others' doors, hatches, and gas tank cover.

They don't start each other though.

Next time I'm in the 'yard I ought to try them out in some wrecks.

I never even lock my doors, so I guess I'd never know  But that is really uncanny... I don't know whether or not thats a good thing... But hey if they are trying to steal a Festy then they are really desperate. -Kyle

anything that would fit in the slot of my first festiva would unlock it and start it. anything from a knife to a craftsman tool box key.

When I bought my Festiva the driver's door could be unlocked with any key, and the previous owners used a screwdriver to start the engine because they'd lost the key a long time ago.

                            Fixed both for obvious reasons....

My stepdads 87 mustang(with the crappy 4 cyl) key opened a unknown year Ford Aerostar van door. They lady had locked her keys in her van and mom was trying to help, and it worked. I don't know if it would start the van or not though.
