  • New Trans mount

    WOW

What a difference it makes .
I have had this ratcheting / slapping noise that has got worse in the last month , I was wondering if that is what it really was .

I had ordered a new trans and front engine mount , just in case .

Yep ..the old one was torn clear off between the metal and the rubber .

No more weird noise when I take off from a stop, or get a little bucking as I re-accelerate , sounding like a giant ratchet in the engine compartment

I feel you. I had a lower mount get really soft on me because of the huge power steering leak I had for a while and I finally got around to changing it out. It made a world of a difference. Wayyy less "sloppy feeling" to it.

I made a solid metal rear mount for my b6t swap and it is soo much more responsive than even my old mint condition rear mount with rubber so I can only imagine what it would be like with a blown rear mount.

It got real bad after I got back from the Ohio meet in October , I was worried it was something in the tranny .

The noise it made was only on take off , or when the engine bucked a little at slow speeds when the engine was rocking back and forth .

Then when I seen the mount after I took it out , I knew that had to be it just banging against itself , and it was just that .

New front wheel bearings going in tomorrow

Where did you get your trans mount from doug?? When i removed the original b3 fromt he car i bought in Kansas the trans mount rubber was separted from the metal that bolts to the tranny. Rockauto had them for 7.60 or 6.70....i couldn't believe the price.

This is a very common problem, at least in the festivas I have worked on and from what I have heard from other festiva members. The mount is supposed to be in one piece, but it is very common for it to separate into two pieces. Let me guess, when you accelerate, your shifter moves quite a bit? I would suggest everybody check theirs out if they do not know the condition of the mount.

No shifter movement , just a very annoying noise .
