  • From Auckland, NZ - Thought I'd introduce myself here..

    Hi everyone,
    My name is Sam.

I'm a Mazda 121 enthusiast from Auckland, New Zealand.
    I have 2x DA 121s both with B1 engines and 4MT gearbox
The green is an NA build and the white one is to be Turbo'd

I purchased the green one for $300NZD from an old lady who used it on her vineyard, driving between the rows to scare away birds.
She affectionately called this green turd 'Moxy' and so I have immortalized its' past life with a custom badge on the rear tailgate (pictured)
It was in poor condition when I picked it up and the radiator exploded on the way home, so I started replacing stuff..

    - Mazda 323 radiator with custom mounts made from old licence plates
    - Re-tuned carburettor and ignition timing
    - New Plugs, Leads, Distributor Rotor
    - Replaced Cambelt, Water Pump, Thermostat
    - Removed rear seats and installed custom tray
    - Big birthday service, coolant, oil, trans fluid, etc.
    - Over 300,000km on the clock and still going strong
    - Custom 2" straight pipe flush mounted with rear bumper (for secret squirrel stealth action)
    - Final step in the process is a camshaft regrind from Engine Specialties in Wairau
and rejetting and tuning the carb at Weber Specialties in Silverdale

The other 121 is a 1990 model, very little if any difference. 170,000km
I am in the process of designing a turbo set up for this one,
using a CT9 turbo from a Toytoa Estima (small compressor and compact unit) which was given to me free for the project
I am really looking for some advice on blow-thru turbo set ups for the original motor.
Biggest hurdle at the moment is designing a turbo manifold to fit and a pressure box for the carb.

This white one was also purchased for around $300NZD from a wrecker,
it has some damage to the RR Quarter Panel and the Rear Beam Axle is a little bent
but I have found a Festiva WA being parted out in Mangere so I am currently acquiring parts for the rebuild.

I look forward to being a part of this forum and sharing my builds,
hopefully someone here can help me as I can't find much information on these cars anywhere!

I will post more detailed information about my builds when I get time to work on them.
